Odd- I've seen this described as "the greatest cop movie of all time" or similar and remember the glowing reviews.
Can some of yhou likers explain yourselves?
Simply, I thought the story was good, OK it's all been done before, but it held enough interest to keep me watching. I don't mind the shaky cam effect as it wasn't through the whole thing. I thought the characters were likeable and the action/drama ratio was good. Can some of yhou likers explain yourselves?
I don't think it the best cop film of all time, just a good one with a twist at the end.
THE SWEENY
Okish, just seemed like a made for TV film clearly done on a budget. Lots of plot holes and continuity issues. Flimsy doors and fibreglass being able to stop a high powered assult rifle burst were a tad laughable.
Watchable at best for me, wish they'd kept or updated the original score. No relevance or nods to the original show at all which is a shame.
4/10

Skyfall
A highly enjoyable, well written, well acted Bond that everyone has seen by now and so makes this review almost certainly redundant
Just enough of the past to make it feel 'Bond' but enough of its own film to bring it up to date. Most cohesive Bond in years
Downsides? Think the promotion of the film has already shown many of the headline shots - didn't feel like there were many 'visual surprises' - not helped (in the IMAX screening I was in) having a 'Red Carpet promo' that featured shots from the film.
Not exactly what I wanted to watch when the actual film was about to play...

Ace film, love the score, the cinematography, the casting, the tight latex catsuit....wibble...

I picked up the Directors Cut on BR from Amazon for about £7. Definetely splits opinion on here but I love it. The opening titles with Bob Dylan singing "The times they are a-changing" are utterly inspired.
Great movie.
Total Recall.
Mind-bogglingly bad. A blashemy of a movie, spat out of some cretin directors ahole to make a few bucks on the back of the Arnie original. No redeeming features whatsoever; the film limps from one set piece to the next as Quaid is chased by his ex wife - Posh Spice lookalike Beckinsale - whose mouth hangs open the whole way through the movie like a fish gulping air, as she tries to stop him from ..um.. um..Stop him from..what??
A generous 2.5/10 because the Fruit and Nut chocolate I ate at the end was lovely.
Went to see The Gambit; disappointed. It's hard to put your finger on exactly why, because on paper it's got a great list of ingredients. Rickman, Firth, Diaz, the Coens, but it just never gels and takes off. The acting is as you'd expect excellent, and the structuring is all very Coen, but it doesn't work and I was looking at my watch half way through.
One for the DVD on a soggy February Tuesday night.

Just finished watching Lucky Number Slevin for the first time...straight into my all-time top 5 films, found it to be absolutely superb.
Past weekends (only been back on PH last few days) have included Skyfall (great) Taken 2 (imho, better than the original) and some less special films...such as Sinister (brutal and mindless) and The Fast and the Furious (why oh why did I bother). Might see End of Watch or Silver Linings tomorrow.

I got mugged into seeing this last night and would agree totally. One for the DVD on a soggy February Tuesday night.
Toads capsule review?
Tries to be A Fish Called Wanda. Fails.
Which is exactly what I put on the report card that the film company gave out when we went into the cinema. Always wanted to fill one of those out, shame it was for such a "meh" film.
Skyfall - 7/10.
Good but not great. Added vulnerability to Bond but a few annoying things:
- Moneypenny - no chemistry between Bond and the actress who plays her. She also didn't have the looks of a Bond girl.
- the DB5. It just annoyed me like the producers were trying to 'buy' our attraction to the film.
- Gay. I'm not homophobic but it just felt contrived and out of place as if they needed a 2012 edge.
Bardem was very good, Craig was raw and very much a Bond and the locations were Bond worthy. Casino Royale was better IMO.

Bit of an oldie this, and one that I would never have expected to like:
Precious.
I won't bore you with the synopsis because it will only make it sound a bit crap, but it is brilliant.
The acting, charachters and ongoing struggle were all perfect. Utterly absorbing and very emotional film but without sinking into violins and overacting.
Pretty sure this won a number of oscars and deservedly so. Suprisingly good acting from Maria Carey in it too. I didnt even realise it was her until the credits.
Watch it.
8.7/10
