I can't find who recommended The Secret In Their Eyes, but thanks. Brilliant.

Argentinian thriller about a prosecutor who's writing a novel about an old case. Great performances and some mind-bending shots (particularly one where an aerial shot of a football match blends into a shot in the stands.) No idea how they did that.
Possibly me - a great film.

Watched three decent films over the last couple of weeks:

About Time

Richard Curtis does what Richard Curtis does best. A lovely coming of age film, with great performances from all the cast, particularly the lovely Rachel McAdams. Bill Nighy was typically brilliant as the father, and I found it very poignant at the end.

8/10

Enough Said

A grown-up rom-com starring James Gandolfini as a middle-aged slob with a heart. Really enjoyed this, along the same lines as Crazy Stupid Love in that I didn't expect much and it surprised me.

7.5/10

Saving Mr Banks

Very, very good and profoundly moving. Thompson stole the show for me, but I still think Farrell was mis-cast here.

7.8/10

Wolf of Wall Street - Enjoyed it, would like to find out more about the story behind it, without all the 'film' exaggeration. Interesting story that i'll be reading up on. Will start by reading the book. 7.5/10

Have an expectation that Jordan Belfort is an absolute helmet though.

Captain Phillips - Superb. Wasn't bothered about watching this really but the wife wanted to see it, so I agreed to watch with her. So glad I did. Excellent film. The ending is so tense and quite draining I thought (which sounds pathetic) Currently working closely with Maersk so was also quite interesting from a work perspective. 9/10

House (1986) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091223

Classic 80's horror/comedy film.

Yes it's naff & cheesy, but still brought a smile. 6.5/10

Avatar. It drags in places, but is still a spectacle and gets the blood rousing with the speeches.

I managed to get my girlfriend to watch Spirited Away with me and she really liked it. smile

Just in time... I got the Art Book delivered today. It's absolutely brilliant. Beautiful pictures and some background to the movie with the original artwork Miyazaki used as he came up with the concept.

I also saw 'Enemy'. Weird but pretty good.

Not the first time I've seen them but..

Drive. (That's the Ryan Gosling gorefest not to be mistaken for the Stallone cheesefest that is 'driven')

Bloody brilliant film, great camera work, fantastic soundtrack, and a bit of every emotion thrown in to boot.

9.5/10

Welcome To The Punch.

Very Very Very good film, well written, well directed, great acting, and a bit of old school London violence thrown in too.

8.5/10

Maersk also have a "cameo role" in Robert Redford's "All is Lost" - worth a watch.

watched a lot of Stephen King films at the weekend, no idea why just started downloading them

pet sematary - 6/10 started of well and probably a really good read but the film cheapen the story with poor effects and cheesy horror scenes

Stand by me - 8/10 to be honest the film felt a bit like a crude, gory wonder years but i enjoyed it to be honest even if there wasnt much of a story going on.

room 1408 - 9/10 really, really enjoyed this to be honest, its about a ghost room in a hotel. naturally its one bd of a room and mental st ensues. I could have wrote a more in depth review of the film but no one seems to bother anymore

Christine - 4/10 a ghost car that has a mind of its own and kills people.....i fell asleep 2/3s of the way through. I wasnt expecting much to be honest

I really want to watch this. I was going to go yesterday with a mate but he said he didn't want to spend money on a film he didn't like the look of. Yet he happily paid to see the new 300 and also Noah....both of which are utter tripe.

How fking dare you, the new 300 was well worth the ticket price to see Eva Greens tits.

Money well spent even though the film was average at best.

Watched Robocop (2014) tonight. As a fan of the original I wasn't expecting much... and it didn't deliver much. It just sort of ticked along without any sort escalation - murphy is murphy all the way through, no big reveals, its just hes in a metal suit. Only difference is hes nice to start then they tinker with a laptop and hes nice still but a bit tastier with a gun and then they tinker some more and hes moody but still tasty with a gun and then they tinker some more and hes nice again but now his gun doesn't work, meh I just didn't really care about him.
The humour of the original film is missing. Those brief scenes with Samuel l Jackson were cringy, if they were in any way supposed to take the place of the TV reports from the original.
In fact, the whole film can just be summed up by the word "joyless". The original was fun to watch, fun to repeat the lines, you imagine it was fun to have made it.... this one everyone seemed to just be going through the motions and hoping it was over soon.
