Recent ones

The World's End - Shaun of the dead/Hot Fuzz with alien robots instead, enjoyable and some nostalgia but 5/10

Robocop 2014 - Much better than expected from the reviews on here, I'm old enough to have seen the original in the cinema and that was a classic, but thought it was a good reboot, if not as gory as I would have liked, 7/10

The Railway Man- After a thread and recommendation from my Mum, funnily enough. Excellent, made me blub like a girl at the end, true humanitarian tale. 9.5/10

I read somewhere that this was quite controversial in Germany for their representations of the key characters.

There's already a thread running on it but yes, there does seem to be some argument as to its realism. All I know is I thought it was moving, brutal and brilliant.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Enjoyed this taught frentetic thriller, I wasn't looking for plot holes or the "but that wouldn't happen..!" moments... just brain out enjoyed it. Kiera was properly annoying though...
Major point for me was sitting bolt upright 3/4 through and pointing at the telly saying : Is that Sinbad from 80's CH4 soap: Brookside, being stabbed?!!
Actually if that was the standout point, then the film wasn't that good was it..... no, it just caught me off guard, I liked the Costner bits, from MOS and this, he seems to have calmed down and matured a bit..
Anyway... 6.8/10 from me.

Thanks mate - you created one of the best films I've seen for a very, very long time and changed the life of a really cool guy. I'm sure you also did much, much more.

I'm not a religious man by any stretch, but I hope you find peace where you are now.

Thanks again.

Should have had her normal accent, putting on an American one, badly, whilst slipping back to English every now and again. VERY annoying. Nice reboot of some good stories though, interested to see where they go with it next.

I watched The Raid and if you like modern martial arts and gratuitous violence and can read subtitles I thoroughly recommend it. I was very surprised that it was written and directed by a Welshman called Gareth Evans!

I will look out for the sequel now, I think I've missed it at the cinema banghead

Sabotage - Solid 7/10. Much better plot than I thought it would be and very enjoyable action scenes. Arnie still has it IMHO.

12 years a slave.

Exactly what I expected. Not a lot of laughs! Direction was well worth the praise. He was happy to take his time when needed. 8/10

Catch up film day. Just watched The Railway Man. Against the grain I know, but better than 12 years a slave for me. Very moving in a way 12 years could never be (telegraphed from the top). An excellent 9/10 Dust in eyes.

I'm going to watch this tomorrow.

Watched the new Godzilla last night...wasn't too bad for what it was. Good special effects but rather predictable - 6/10

Currently watching special forces on the American netflix.

American news reporter gets abducted by Taliban and French special forces set out to get her back, switches between French with sub-titles and English. Quite good so far

Edit: one of the best war films I've watched in a while, very similar to lone survivor

The Railway Man. What an absolutely brilliant film. Really enjoyed this, very moving and a really good story. Deserves more than the 7.1 it got on imdb imo.

8.5/10, maybe more.

Godzilla Highly satisfying monster movie, easily eclipses the modern era attempts...and reminded me alot of the cartoon and older Japanese versions... offers up just enough monstr stuff..a very fine lione as there is alot of back story and human stuff to deal with..
For me..a solid 7.7/10
