I did enjoy this, but wasn't expecting to. But yes, did come across very much like Groundhog Day!
I watched this last night as well, was more amusing in parts than I was expecting.

Quite enjoyed this. Silly amount of old action heros and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Ridiculous story and action scenes but enjoyable none the less.

Went to see The Dark Horse on Saturday night. One critic described it as a blend of Shine and Once were Warriors, and although it had elements of each, I didn't think it was as powerful as either of those. Still a moderately good watch though. 7/10. Saw Bad Words on a long flight last week. Not bad and some genuinely funny bits. 7.5/10.

In the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, filmmakers experimented with SciFi concepts, often at the expense of a coherent story. Some weren't so bad and just left a number of plot lines unresolved. Many offered us an incomprehensible vision of some distopian future. Those films are mostly forgotten.

Sad to say that Snowpiercer is one of those where the borrowed story from Logan's Run doesn't work when transplanted into a world that makes no sense. Consequently the exploration of characters under the stresses imposed by this fake world didn't chime really... Oh I can't be arsed. It was rubbish. Even Danny Boyle's Sunshine tried to explain WHY they were where they were, and so you can accept that and move on with the story. But, as a result of there being too little/zero explanation for the situation in Snowpiercer, I couldn't get into the film.

1/10 and only because I like many of the leads. I'd never watch it again and wouldn't recommend it.

I think 1 is a bit harsh but it wasn't a good movie.

I watched Office Space (1999) with Jennifer Aniston looking hot. Never seen it before and found it quite amusing. Loved the way they explained the plan "like Superman 3" and the juxtaposition of the music and the geeks was well done. The printer scene I also enjoyed. Overall though it felt a little flat in some ways. Maybe I was expecting more.
6.5/10

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy on Friday, the first scene with the Walkman sets the tone perfectly. As others have said, story is good, jokes are great, laughing all the way through. I'd say it's the best comic book based film that's been released so far. A solid 9/10 for me.
For those of us of a certain age I went misty eyed over the C90 mix tape, resulted in a cracking soundtrack, did chuckle at the final scene too
Aye, I thought the soundtrack was superb! Though there was one scene that was very Reservoir Dogs-esque! Not yet decided it if was just copying or more of an homage...

Edge of Tomorrow

Look, I know you can criticise any time travel film regarding loopholes but if you just "go with it" it's really bloody brilliant.

It's also hard not to compare every time loop story to Groundhog Day especially as the point is for the characters to use the time to learn and in that respect this is the same, but it was a good story, great representation of aliens, and enjoyable characters.

Cruise is setting the bar for modern SciFi IMO.

10/10 - even better than Oblivion.
Agree 99% - Oblivion just topped it for me but still a great movie.

Just sitting down to watch 12 angry men. Trying to watch some more of the classic films from back in the day.

Anyone got any good oldies? No horror please
School for Scoundrels.

The original (1960), not, not, not, NOT, the crappy pointless remake (2006).

BTW have we had a thread for remakes that are actually better than the original? I can't think of any.

Guardians of the Galaxy - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2015381

I was expecting to hate this as super-hero CGI fests usually annoy me. However it won me over, the story is basically tosh and it sits at 100MPH for the entire film but it's great fun, several laugh out loud moments and it never runs out of steam.

Will probably never be a classic but worth a punt 7.5/10

Under The Skin - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441395

A curious film, quite liked the Kubrick-esque cinematography and the slow pace, Scarlett Johansson was quite good also. I thought however the ending was a little unsatisfactory. Worth watching if you fancy something a bit different 6/10

Cape Fear definitely gets my vote. Not seen the original 3:10 to Yuma.

Thomas Crown Affair.
is this the film in which a self-made billionaire "Thomas Crown" is bored of being able to buy everything he desires. Being irresistible to women, he also does not feel any challenge in that area. But there are a few things even he can't get, therefore, hopefull the same Thomas Crown has a seldom hobby: He steals priceless masterpieces of Art. After the theft of a famous painting from Claude Monet the who cut his ear off, the only person suspecting our Thomas Crown is Catherine Banning. Her job is to get the picture back, no matter how she accomplishes her mission. Unfortunately, Catherine gets involved too deeply with Thomas to keep a professional distance to the case. Fortunately, Thomas seems to fall for her, too. Thus filling in the affair bit.

made by the good people at MGm staring

Pierce Brosnan ...
Thomas Crown

Rene Russo Rene Russo ...
Catherine Banning

Denis Leary Denis Leary ...
Michael McCann

Ben Gazzara Ben Gazzara ...
Andrew Wallace

Frankie Faison Frankie Faison ...
Detective Paretti

Fritz Weaver Fritz Weaver ...
John Reynolds

Charles Keating Charles Keating ...
Friedrich Golchan

Mark Margolis Mark Margolis ...
Heinrich Knutzhorn

Faye Dunaway Faye Dunaway ...
The Psychiatrist

with a budget of $48,000,000 (estimated)

Opening Weekend: £916,452 (UK) (20 August 1999)

Gross: $69,304,264 (USA) (11 February 2000)

or another Thomas crown affair, its hard to tell by your detailed review

Review? It wasn't a review, it was an addition to the on-going conversation in the several posts before mine.

Off work today after having a wisdom tooth removed so decided to watch a film and just finished Saving Mr Banks.

Brilliant film!

Emma Thompson plays her role absolutely superbly. Wasn't sure whether I'd enjoy it but really did. 8.2/10 for me.

The Double - Directed by that guy from The IT Crowd, starring Jesse Eisenberg. A guy (Jesse Eisenberg) freaks out when a new co-worker arrives who is his exact body double. That's what I got from the first 30 minutes anyway, I turned off after that. Eerie, bleak, weird and just mind numbing, and not in a good way. I skipped through to the ending and it looks like I didn't miss much.
