Watched "Locke" this weekend. How can 90 minutes of nothing but a man making and receiving calls while driving on a motorway be gripping, heartbraking, and occasionally funny? Well it is - mostly down to the ever excellent Tom Hardy, this time playing a man who's career, marriage and whole life is falling apart in one evening, while he tries solve as many problems as he can pragmatically and - as long as he can manage it - unemotionally.
Only criticism is that Olivia Coleman is one of the voices on the phone. I think shes a brilliant actress, but sadly her voice is so recognisable that i could picture her face. For all the other voices they were truly anonymous which added to the focus on Hardy.
9/10

For its specification/criteria/brief/audience etc I'd say yes it's up there with the best (of animated films).

Beautifully animated with glorious attention to detail, a decent story (and if one has ever played with Lego, something they can relate to...even as the bad guy!), laugh out loud moments, plenty to keep children and adults amused. Up there with the best of Disney.

So yes, I'll stand by 10/10 (or at least 9.5/10)
Don't get me wrong it's a good film, very good even but I do wonder whether people really judge a 10/10 to be better than Vertigo, Citizen Kane, Godfather etc. You did qualify it subsequently with animated films so fair enough, though I'd put some of the Pixar films above it

City of god, found randomly on Netflix. Its a foreign film with subtitles but turned out to be a great film, well worth 2 hours of your time.

With films of such different genres direct comparisons are very difficult.

Lego could have made a Hollywood hash of it - you know the type, generic scenes with lack of character progression/interest and a weak story. So many franchises/remakes have been subject to such movie making of late. However, I think they came up with a good story and something that anyone who has played with Lego can relate to. Moreover, there was some brilliant laugh out loud moments and I have no doubt that watching it again will reveal more jokes/background details missed the first time.

Everyone has an opinion, I just loved it.

9/10 tongue out;)

The Inbetweeners 2

Like most people in their early 20's I love The Inbetweeners and whilst the first movie was good I never thought it was on par with the TV series. I found the sequel to be a lot funnier though it did sort of suffer from a few moments of "nothingness". Theres not much I can say without spoiling it but I highly recommend it to fans of the series!

7.5/10

"I'm batman"
Batman gets all the best lines.
"The Hairy one is a dude"

I liked that it poked fun at lego collectors, superheros and following the instructions. Bit subversive really.

Revenge film with a western setting. Some interesting scenes ( I'm going to get st for this but reminded me if vanishing point) basically a couple of people on a journey with added violence.

Good performance from brosnan.

6.5/10

Laughed and cringed in equal measure. Makes Borat look like Blue Peter.

yes

Watched this yesterday, brilliantly crude. Genuine LOL moments, some of the bystander reactions were hilarious. Agreed, 8/10 (if you like that kind of thing - which I do!)

Also watched Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise). Thriller which was reasonable but certainly not outstanding. Some cheesy lines spoilt it plus a particularly unfunny scene in which two thugs try to kill Reacher while he is unarmed in the bath. They manage to hit everything in sight (the bath, the ceiling, each other) and Reacher is unharmed (except a bump to the head).

7/10

Under The Skin - 2013.

Not quite the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's nice not to be spoonfed a plot. Really nicely shot and filmed, tension builds fairly nicely, good atmospheric soundtrack. Couple of "Whoa!" moments but I struggled to stay focused for all of it.

Another vote for Lego Movie,

This cracks me up... especially as I was a huge fan of the old lego space stuff, and many of the little men had a slightly chewed helmet just like his! It's like he was in the film just for me! smile

Just watched Locke, starring Tom Hardy.

If you are fine with the omission of any sort of action or scenery change whatsoever in lieu of a great, gripping storyline and script then this film is for you.

Thoroughly enjoyable, not too long. A good 7/10.

a bit of a Robin Williams week

one hour photo - 9/10 my favourite film of his, dark and rather sad. You can't help but feel sorry for him throughout the film, 2002, really doesn't feel like that came out 12 years ago. I remember going to the cinema to see that film with my first girlfriend.

Good will hunting - 9/10 sure we all know the plot but again really good film, made me realise just how good and actor he was.

Aladdin - eh I fell asleep during it actually, got to stop doing that

watched a lot of his stand up, I know not films but by fk the Golf sketch that he done always has me in stiches, he nails the Scottish accent, it makes me realise how often we swear up here. The use of fk every second word is spot on, it must be the most commonly used word up here.
