Had a bit of a catch up recently.

Noah - Even if you remove all of the religious rubbish it's still laughably bad. 3/10

Amazing Spiderman 2 - Worse than the first one, and what on earth did they (mis)cast Paul Giamatti in it for? 5/10

Captain America - Winter Soldier - Better than the first one, quite enjoyed it. 7/10

The Grand Budapest Hotel - Loved it. Not always a Wes Anderson fan but this was brilliant. Ralph Fiennes gives one of the best comic performances I've seen in a long time. 9/10

Only Lovers Left Alive - A bit slow and broody but enjoyed it. Some nice guitar porn for those interested (JC?). 7/10

The Raid 2 - Big improvement over the OK first one. Brutal doesn't really cover it. 8/10

Godzilla - On a par with the similar, and similarly disappointing, Pacific Rim. 6/10

Anchorman 2 - Loved the first, this was awful. Watched to half way and gave up as barely raised a smile. 3/10

Viewing the world in straight lines like this is going to cause you to forego an awful lot of pleasure. Taking this logic to it's conclusion, you've ruled out Star Wars, 2001, The Shining, Lord of the rings, Avatar, Gravity, Santa Claus & the tooth fairy.

The whole point of fantastic stories (as in fantasy, as in not the actual real world) is to temporarily trade your disbelief in return for entertainment. In doing so, you enrich your soul, not necessarily your academic mind. Try it, you may like it.
I think you are right, to an extent. We accept that the A team can fire 50 thousand bullets at the bad guys and they just get up looking a bit bashed up; we accept that spaceships can move through space at warp speeds etc., etc., The film makers are asking us to come into that world and as long as the internal rules are consistent we give them the benefit of the doubt and go along with it.

I can see where JonRB is coming from though. A film using an already disproved fact is going to be a difficult one to swallow in the first place, let alone one that has that fact as its maguffin. This does make my teeth itch a bit but I may still go and see it cos I like watching films with chicks kicking butt.

Hey, I have hidden shallows, what can I say... hehe

she doesnt kick butt.....she has, for want of a better word, god like powers. fight scenes are just her looking at someone sideways - that villain then floats out of the way.

seriously - its the crappest film I've seen in years....when she starts scrolling through time by swiping her field of view like an ipad I nearly shouted out "OH JUST fk OFF!!!" ...... i didnt, luckily a guy behind me did biggrin

Both of my kids went to see Lucy two days ago and said it was the best film they have ever seen.

What have I produced? frown

Are you sure they're yours?

I'd definitely question it if I were in your shoes.

Disappointed about the reviews of Lucy. Was thinking of seeing this.

However, doesn't she get her clobber off in it? and if so, isn't that a redeeming feature?!

No - she gets kit off in Under the Skin.

but she does it in a 100% not sexual way. If you get off to that film you are sicker in the head than the weird kids that saw (and liked) Lucy. And the film is a bit nuts. And she plays an alien with a dazed look.....which she seems to have mastered for Lucy. And she has a bod that is far from all that great anyway.

After under the skin and lucy it will be a long time before I endure another of her films.

I switched the film off a few mins into it. Read the book after seeing the trailer and I really enjoyed it despite not being the target market for it. Might give the film another go, but just doesn't seem anywhere near as good as the book.
Hypocritically, I haven't seen the film yet. I plan on watching with the girlfriend soon. I only said the book is better because I have read it, and it's common knowledge that the book is ALWAYS better. ALWAYS.
Gave the film another shot, not bad but not as good as the book. Misses a few key bits out which annoyed me a tad.

My favourite film of all time! Its just perfect!

Few bits of trivia for you -

It was written by Quentin Tarantino and he then sold the script for $10,000 (I think) to help fund Reservoir Dogs.
In Tarantino's original screenplay, Clarence dies from that bullet to the eye! but after Tarantino saw the changed ending in Scott's film he said that it was better than his version!

I just watched Sherlock Holmes (the one with Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law) and really enjoyed it.

(It's currently included in Amazon Prime Video)

Just watched Machine Gun Preacher and really enjoyed it.

The cover, name and marketing really don't do this film any favours, I thought it was some cheesy action film, but it's actually a great true story and quite hard hitting/thought provoking.

Watched the 2 matrix sequels after not seeing them for a couple of years and really enjoyed them. Going against popular opinion here but I thought they were better than the original. They seem to have more action and the plot is easier to understand despite what other people say. Plus it makes me want a Ducati 996 and I'm not a bike person.

Just finished watching The Raid 2. Pretty bloody good, the fight scene in the kitchen was epic. 10/10
