Inside Llewyn Davis. As an unmitigated fan of all things Coen Brothers, I was looking forward to this. However...it's far from up there with the best. The elements are all there, including, as usual, a turn from John Goodman & a great performance from Ethan Phillips, but overall it just doesn't tick enough of the weird boxes that you would expect. It's still pretty good to look at although I didn't catch whether Roger Deakins photographed it but for me, it was a slight disappointment.
We watched this not long ago - it's a testament to how bland I found the film as I had to look it up to try and remember what it was about when I saw your post.

Looper
Time travel film in which the mob sent people back in time to be killed as it can't be done in the future. Loopers are the killers and eventually they get sent themselves back to kill and they retire, live for the next 40 years are are then killed by the younger them closing the loop.
Failing to close your loop is bad.

There is a lot more to this film than action sci-fi, it's very well done and follows its own internal logic. They don't skimp on the controversial themes (child killing, torture etc) but actions have consequences. It has an MX5 as a classic car so the perfect PH movie.

I really enjoyed it, one of the best I've seen for some time. 8.5/10

I agree. I caught it on Amazon Prime Video a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

Seven - I saw this at the cinema when it came out in 1995 and watched again for the first time last night. I'd forgotten how grim it was, as if the main characters were already in hell. The rain only stops when John Doe appears in the police station so maybe he was some sort of twisted angel. Up there with the best IMHO. 9/10

Edge of tomorrow - really very good. I like Tom and he does a really good job in this as his character develops over time. And for a well worn concept, felt really fresh.

8/10
+1 As a fan of the genre, great work. Also The Signal (2014) is a cracking little sci-fi film. Nice twists, tension and character 7.2/10
Watched both these films in the last two days. I think I actually preferred The Signal, and I'd recommend it to someone who likes District 9 maybe, or other fairly low-key sci-fi films like "Monsters" that are set in the real world. Only thing I'd say is don't read any reviews or anything that gives the plot away. For the first time in ages I watched it with no idea what its about and it works well when the truth is revealed to you at the same pace as the main protagonist.

In Order of Disappearance ( Norwegian / subtitles )
Brilliant, only very slightly comic but with a high body count and spectacular shoot outs. Two drug families set against each other by the ordinary fella whose day job is driving a snow plough. Obviously he has to avenge the death of his son. Lots of snow and very Coenesque. Really enjoyed it but probably art house. 8/10
Only a few in the cinema as it was competing with this ...

100 foot Journey
Is on the Best Marigold Hotel theme - an Indian family move in opposite a French Gourmet restaurant in Provence and set up a curry house of the best sort. All the usual cliches but you will walk out the cinema with a feel good feeling. 8/10

Disappearance = one for the boys
Journey = one for babes

A bit late to the party but

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

9/10 very close to perfection for me as a superhero movie. It had everything, romance, comedy, it was dark and gritty. Absolutely loved it, my favourite marvel movie by far which is big seeming I am a bit of a marvel fan boy.

Hmmm. I have given the reboot of the reboot a miss so far. Should I give it a look? I think one or both are currently available on Amazon Prime so could do.

Rampage - Capital Punishment.

Good film. Not quite up to the original film but a worthy sequel.
High hopes for this, first one was massively overlooked.Loved the bingo hall scene.
Watched this last night, quite brutal but not as good as the first one,bit disjointed and too much in one place.7/10.

As long as you don't pay any money for them, might as well give them a go.
For balance, I found Spiderman 2 to be awful, and I'm a big marvel film fan.

Spiderman 2 was Twilight with web.

I know they were following the general thrust of the comic story from the 80's and kudos to them for trying but despite that they failed on an epic level.

Two days, one night - a French film with Marion Coutillard - pretty good, very French, pretty 'arty' - nothing much happens and a few awkward moments - critics giving it 5/5 or 9/10 - not sure it deserves quite that much but it is good.

It follows a woman who is breaking down after being told she is facing the sack following a bout of depression. She has to convince her colleagues that she should keep her job.

If it wasnt for Marion Coutillard it wouldn't be half as good.

Based on the recommendations here, my wife and I watched The Signal last night. Both of us... hated it. Sorry. Draggy/meandering plot, weird FX and unsatisfactory ending.

Not going to bother rating it but I wouldn't recommend and I wouldn't watch again.

Saw True Romance today, have no idea how I managed to miss that for 20 years.
Best film Ever made bar none....IMO with easily the best cast ( Cannonball Run being a close second!) AND the best ever scene...the Sicilian scene between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken.

We watched it over the weekend based off the suggestion a few pages back, and the scene you mention is an absolute classic; probably one of the best scenes ever!

Tried Divergence out recently and actually enjoyed it, even though I didn't expect to as its not my usual cup of char.
The Grand Budapest Hotel was very, very good imo, and I also really enjoyed watching Idiocracy a few weeks ago which passed me by when released. It doesn't always nail it but the general concept is great, as are the subtle jokes throughout.

Also been on a bit of a Steve Coogan run lately and watched:

Alpha Papa (not for me, and I love Alan Partridge)
Philomena - Fantastic
What Maisie Knew - Again, fantastic
The Trip - Really enjoyed watching all over again and will be watching the Italian version soon

However, I'm about ready for another mob/heist/action film session in the coming days - any thoughts?
