Watched Noah last night, I'm waaaaaaay behind in my Bible studies so I've no idea how it compares to the Bible version, but I enjoyed it - it's a bit odd which I like.

Noah is meant to be the 10th generational off-spring of Adam and Eve and the world is population by two tribes, the descendants of Cain and the descendants of Cain and Able's younger brother who's name escapes me. well it seems it's 99% Cain's lot because Noah and his family seem to be the sum-total of forgethisname's off spring.

I guess it's not exactly verbatim from the Bible because it includes elements of evolution and in a short sequence illustrating the history of man killing man between the time of Cain and Able there depictions of medieval warriors, romans and Vietnam War era solders.

Anyway, I suppose i'm not giving anything away when I say there's a flood and a big boat filled with animals, but Noah's is a proper nasty bd at times who acts believing he's doing the "creators" bidding (never referred to as God in this) when he's actually doing the opposite as he's misread the signs - perhaps we should drop a couple of copies on IS and Al Qaeda?

Anyway, I enjoyed it and so did my Wife, a solid 7/10 - it's best not think about how a Man, his Wife, their adult Son, 10 year old Son, adopted Daughter and her two baby daughters were going to repopulated the earth.

Two days, one night - a French film with Marion Coutillard - pretty good, very French, pretty 'arty' - nothing much happens and a few awkward moments - critics giving it 5/5 or 9/10 - not sure it deserves quite that much but it is good.
I quite enjoyed it too.
Agreed that it was not full of laughs ( very few actually ) but thought it very French in the way she ended up with her self respect intact and knew just who her real friends were.
I came out thinking I'd learnt another good lesson in life.
Shall we split the difference and say 7/10 ?

Yes. That's fair. I know the film was quite deep and well acted and it wasnt the sort of film that relied on dramatic effects but I think some music and an effort to make a bit more suspense would have helped it a bit.

She's a great actor - it's a shame she doesn't get her rack out in this like in some other films - rust and bone etc

Brewster's Millions - 9/10 John Candy and Richard Pryor, 80's comedy gold. I've seen it a few times before but fancied it again after coming into a bit of money that I intend to blow in a similar fashion.

Brewster is a low league Baseball player, he inherits £30 million but he has to spend it in 30 days to get £300 million. Had me laughing a fair few times through it, if you do watch it, and I urge you to watch it, you will be continually thinking for the next few hours, what would I do?

Its the dream but with a twist

It would have been a much darker film if, after he had spent it all, it turned out to be an evil joke on the part of the benefactor and the $30million was it and it was all gone. evil

You said 30 and 300 initially, which were the figures I was using in my reply to you. If you're going to change it to 1 and 30 now, then change the numbers in my reply accordingly too. smile

Ok. And I was saying that it would have made for a pretty dark ending if it was all an evil joke, and he spent the 30 million in 30 days, and then was told that this was actually the entirety of the inheritance, and that there was no 300 million, and he now had nothing. Because the person leaving him the money was an evil bd or something.

Anyway, this is rather off-topic. Sorry.

I got that, you sick bugger. I was basically saying that, if your version was true, id sooner have spent the 30 million buying life changing experiences than living on a million for years.

oh and that would be a st ending. ITS FEEL GOOD...

The Evil Dead - the track records of remakes haven't been very good, so I was pleasantly surprised that this stayed respectful to the original whist putting its own twist. I liked the way the main characters were going to the cabin to help their friend go cold turkey, which makes them more likeable as it isn't the usual teens go somewhere remote to drink, take drugs and have sex routine that we've seen a million times before so makes them more sympathetic, and makes them think the strange goings on are as a result of her addiction. It's very well made, and does feature

One thing that did bug me was how the evil gets unleashed - in the original they play a recording, which makes sense as you'd likely play a tape if you saw it lying around but here it's far less logical. One of the characters also does two incredibly stupid acts within about 2 minutes of eachother, but that's not enough to spoil it. There is a truly epic cock tease at the end though

Inbetweeners 2.

Return to form. Not quite as good as the very best TV episodes but MUCH better than the first (disappointing) film. I LOL'd, a lot.

Epic bants. 8/10.

I watched The Signal this week, twice.

Nice premise, hip young "hackers" following a trail of some uber hacker, although its a trap. I watched it twice because something was bugging me about it. one thing, the sound effects. All the best scifi movies have contributed sound effects to this movie, if in background noise or action noise. Its quite fun to pick them out, example, when the protagonist is dragging his GF to the elevator, we hear the image processor from Bladerunner, enhancing the picture of Zhora in the hotel room.

Another thing got me from the second viewing

the ending, was their whole life a simulation ala Matrix style. The ship was big enough to have contained the desert scene, why not their world. When they get abducted, there is no hint of a flying saucer or some other craft, they just get plucked into thin air. Their finding the signal from Nomad, alerted their alien captors that they had potential.

So all in not a bad little movie I thought, 7/10.

the end for me was complete garbage IMO, too slow and about an hour into I realised, they haven't a clue of how to finish this. Started off rather well, but felt majorly let down.

I'm quite surprised I'm posting this here.

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter

It's not a serious documentary, it takes elements of Lincoln's life and twists a tale of betrayal and vampires into it. Although the whole premise is daft it takes the idea and runs with it sticking solidly to its own internal logic and rules and as a daft superhero movie it works. It's well acted (Rufus Sewell camps it up nicely as head vampire) the fights are well choreographed and it looks good.

On the downside he powerslides a horse drawn carriage. On the upside he throws a horse at him!

On an absolute scale it's no more than a 5 as a fun action movie it's an easy 8/10.
