Bad Neighbours

Not a bad film but certainly not great. The story basically being that a couple with a baby live in a quiet neighbourhood until a Frat House (American thing) move in next door. They don't get along so they engage in sabotage against one another.

Thing is the first half hour is slow and meaningless, the "sabotage" bit is rather too short (as though the writers ran out of ideas after the initial concept was floated), and the ending was somewhat open.

It involves the same bunch who wrote and starred in This Is The End which is another film that seemed like a half-decent concept but was obviously rushed into production before enough ideas had been found to fully populate the story.

4/10 for the occasional snigger, for Rose Byrne (hot), and the concept. I'd only recommend it because there's precious little else to watch at the mo.

Signs – 9/10
Mel Gibson encounters some Aliens. It’s an old film but I really enjoy it, must have watched it a dozen times. Is it worthy of a 9/10, probably not, but for some reason I particularly enjoy this film.
The ending isn’t great but to be honest throughout the film your left with the right amount of tension and fear to engulf you in the movie.

I also enjoyed this film. I particularly think Joaquin Phoenix is great in this one. Look at the difference between his Emperor Commodus in "Gladiator" and Merrill Hess in "Signs".

'Signs' Spoiler below.

Aliens that melt in water invade a planet that is two thirds water - clever...

I watched 21 Jump Street last night - it was a film that I've avoided for years, mainly because of the two lead actors in it, but it was actually a LOT funnier than I expected it to be and I really enjoyed it. Is the sequel worth watching?

I did feel a bit cheated by that, safe however as they wouldn't come anywhere near Scotland.

That's rather like the cop-out Hollywood-style ending of the 1962 film version of 'Day of the Triffids'

Hummingbird - Jason Statham as ex special forces soldier on the run from a court martial living homeless. Turns his life around and becomes an enforcer for a Chinese gang whilst wrestling with his morality and a bit of revenge thrown in.

Really enjoyed it and a good story 7.5/10
In fairness that is the plot for pretty much every Statham film, not that it makes them any the less enjoyable, isn't he one of the most bankable actors around in cost/return?

I watched Safe the other day and thought I'd seen it before but realised it was pretty much Hummingbird, but set in America.

I watched a good, but quite grim and bleak film the other day, Starred Up, set in prison almost a Scum for the 21st century

I caught Brick Mansions the other day http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1430612/ with Paul Walker in it.

Appears it's a straight US remake of District 13 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414852/ which even had a sequel http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1247640/.

Luc Besson getting as much as possible out of the same story. I enjoyed District 13 when I first saw it, this not so much really.

On advice from this forum I tried Coherence tonight. I really enjoyed it. Freaky but it really worked well. Good concept and characters whose motives and movements were believable for a change.

9/10 - recommended.

Before Coherence, I tried Upside Down. I only managed 5 or 6 mins before the stupid premise make my head explode and I turned it off.

Went to see the Equalizer for a healthy dose of Denzel: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455944/

Loved it. All the good stuff from Man on Fire, Out of Time, Deja Vu and half a dozen of his other films.
Yes, it's an action movie. Yes, the way too normal looking old guy is a former SEAL/FBI/KGB one man army. Yes, a lot of action movie clichés.

But, I loved the suspense that was set up. I loved the fact that the movie took itself maybe a bit too serious every now and then, Denzel just does it so great, you actually believe that he believes this character, he IS this guy (Expendables, Two Guns and the like don't do that and that's fine as well).

Solid 8/10, definitely worth a viewing for me if you were on the fence of going to see it.

How can the Equalizer be anyone other than Edwardwood Woodwardwood?

Ender's Game

I haven't read the books, but I really enjoyed it. A great family film, which even has a deep message.

If by deep you mean heavy handed, shallow and trite, then I completely agree biggrin
