Odd Thomas. Tale about a boy who can see dead people and help them. He can also sort of read dreams and see the future and the future for his small town looks like trouble.

I read the book years ago but only recalled bits a pieces of it so was interested in how this would pan out. Pretty good as it happens, well paced, good effects and the story well realised. I felt the town was bigger and more cosmopolitan than the book and some other the background action (people milling about) didn't look very real although this could have been deliberate. I didn't think he was Odd enough and the girlfriend was a bit too hot and not really gothy at all but again that may be my memory playing tricks.

Well worth a watch. 7.5/10

She lost the ability to reset time, not the ability to remember what had happened before that moment.

As for losing the ability, she says she "just knew" - that you'll have to take on faith.

Agree entirely that the only questionable thing is how does she know she's lost the ability as she would have to die to find out? Women's intuition perhaps...

you seem to be missing the whole point of the reset. The aliens use this ability to control events. No matter how many times you reset time back to being alive you retain all memory and experience. That's the whole point of the entire movie.

And as for the 'if you lost the ability then died' part of your theory. Well that's just an assumption your making. She lost the ability so couldn't remeber any new deaths that occurred with TC in his resets, but it's only your rules that loosing the ability resents your entire memory and wipes out all previous experiences.

Remember she didn't loose her ability through a death, she lost it through a blood transfusion. So when TC meets her she hadn't died since her last reset.... So all memory's of previous resets would still be intact and present. That's why TC remembers everything after his blood transfusion... He hasn't died and is still alive after his last reset

Personally I thought it was quite clear.
Me too.

The only thing I can think of is that because the Omega has died he's either chosen where/when to reset to. Or with the Omega dead, the last reset takes him back to the first reset the Omega did on Earth?

Troll hunter was on the other evening. Missed the first half hour or so, but enjoyed the rest. Not quite as nicely structured as Rare Exports, but good fun.

Just watched "Gone Girl" at the cinema

Absolutely brilliant film. The first film with Ben Affleck I have actually enjoyed too. Rosamund Pike was superb too. Well recommended!

Not a fan of Good Will Hunting, Gone Baby Gone, Argo or The Town?

I suggest folk give The Signal a watch. I'm a bit surprised at some of the reviews to be honest, excellent film.

Also gave The Grand Budapest Hotel a watch recently and it was good but I was maybe expecting a bit more after hearing so much about it. It does have a charm about it though and it looks terrific.

I found Argo ok, but not amazing. I've yet to watch any of the others, to my shame.

I'm back, having watched Edge of Tomorrow.

What a bloody excellent film. Like Groundhog Day, but with guns and Power Armour. I love Power Armour, Gear, Exo-Suits and Mecha. biggrin

Sorry for being a bit arsey earlier, but I really wanted to see this film without spoilers. Fortunately what I read here didn't spoil it *too* much.

But I think it's fair to say that this thread is a great place to discover films you have not seen before. So, ipso facto, we should be really careful about spoilers. Is that fair?

I think it was just a neat way to wrap the film up in a kinda happy way.biggrin

I don't think that a more downbeat ending, would have improved it, for once.

I thought it almost ruined the film, because it made no sense. I liked the concept of the helicopter scene when he had to accept they could get no further without sacrifice, no matter how many times he tried, but then it all gets wiped clean. A bleak ending could have elevated it to a classic.
True, but given that it was a Hollywood film, I think it's the best we could have hoped for.smile

It rather reminds me of 28 Days Later actually. If you look at the Deleted Scenes on the DVD/BD then the alternative ending where the protagonist dies from the bullet to the abdomen is far more plausible. I preferred that ending.

Edit: Apologies for the editing gaffe there. I hope nobody read anything spoilerish whilst I frantically edited it. biggrin

The ending was a cop out, as per hollywood std. Although not really that bd in the general scheme of things.

Agreed. I saw it a while ago but was quite surprised to see a few little spoilers on here.

Watched Lucy last night.

Girl unlocks the capacity of her brain, becomes smarter, gets powers.

Thought it was a steaming pile of ste with few redeeming features.

It was initially a bit like Limitless (which was by no means a classic but far better than this).

Premise was potentially interesting

Garbage wasn't it. Made worse immediately by the fact that humans only use 10% of their brain capacity is a load of st, according to my old lecturer at uni who was a professor of neuro-physiology....
