Just watched Lucy and thought it was quite good. Ok the story left a bit to be desired but it was enjoyable
none the less.
Option seems very divided on this one, if this thread, and the inverse of this thread, are to be believed.

Personally, I'd struggle to engage with a film whose premise that "only 10% of the human brain is used" has been so thoroughly debunked that the premise may as well be that "the Earth is flat".

Only 10% of the earth is flat jester

Actually just watching Lucy now, 10 mins to go and it hasn't been that bad.

Don't get me wrong it's not great, but it's ok.

apparently that whole thing about people believing the earth was flat is also not true - made up within the last 150 years?

A walk amongst the tombstones

Liam Neeson plays Liam Neeson in this Taken like film, although the feel is much less wham-bam and far darker and tense, with a 7even type of feel. So much so it tired me out!

No classic though and not as re-watchable as Taken. 6/10

Saw the equalizer yesterday and really enjoyed it. A bit slow at times, but I quite liked that.
Lots of reasonably big name actors in what really amounts to cameos.
I really liked the way they set certain things up and then didn't deliver what you were expecting.
Must remember to be really nice to the assistant next time I go to b&q.

Well worth a watch.

I just saw Gone Girl.

Not much I can say without spoiling anything really - all I will say is GO SEE IT ASAP!

Its fantastic, an easy 9/10 which would have been a 10 if it wasn't for a very minor plot hole.

Sex Tape

Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel play a couple who used to buck each others brains out then got married and had kids.

Decide to spice things up by making a sex tape for themselves which somehow gets leaked............

Not too good really, with this sort of film I wasn't expecting any Oscar worthy performances or a great story, just switch off and be entertained for an hour or so. Wasn't particularly funny at any point other than the sexual acrobatics at the end.......

You get to see Cameron Diaz's necked ass a few times and at 42 isn't looking too bad at all but certainly not in her 20's anymore.

In summary the Mrs summed it up quite well- 'a couple of hours of my life I'm not getting back.'

3/10

So, in summary, that's a 'bad' film you watched this weekend?

hehe

Indeed. One of the best films I've seen this year. Rosamund Pike absolutely nailed it, along with every other cast member. It had the most unpredictable story ever and I was on the edge of my seat with my jaw scraping the floor for the entire film.

Agreed, read my comments a fee posts back. Rosamund Pike was superb, wouldn't surprise me if she gets an award for her performance.

Finally got round to catching up on Tarantino this weekend. Liked everything I ever seen of his until I went to the cinema a few years back and watched Death Proof, which was mainly a bit boring.

Anyways... watched Sin City, Django and Inglourious Basterds this weekend.

Sin City - hmmm... not sure, interesting but didn't really excite.
Django - genuinely enjoyed it, some great characters and had me hooked from the start to end
Inglourious - again, enjoyed it all, great characters, more of a proper film with a story line.

All in all, Tarantino rocks if you want something with a bit more character and grit than the usual hollywood film by numbers.

It was stunning. Loved it .
It really kept me on the edge of my seat and my opinions of the characters changed as the story ran.
Excellent.

Watched this over the weekend too. Agree with your reading. Slightly 'Taken'-esque, but less action and more detective. Was expecting a plot twisty at the end which didn't arrive.

to add to the edge of tomorrow discussions:

i enjoyed it. loved the bit with the caravan and some of the early deaths were laugh out loud funny. also emily blunt looks absolutely amazing. 7.5/10 for me, def. a cut above the usual blockbuster fayre.

however

i dislike the ending, it made no sense.

however the worst part for me was the battle from the time cruise lost the ability and the alien defeat just seemed too easy given the amount of resets and hard work they'd had to put in just to clear the beach.

also how the hell did the scientist guy know so much about the aliens including what the omega looked like?

I guess he was the pre-eminent expert and would have had access to specimens and other intel etc... Also, she was having visions and she would have described the Omega to him - probably...

So in effect it's nothing like Taken, other than the fact Liam Neeson leads in both...
It ain't about his estranged family
He isn't ex special forces
It's not about his revenge, and he doesn't actually kick much ass in "A Walk..."

He's an ex tough cop with some crippling issues hired to help a gang get revenge... dark and tense is right.

Guardians of the Gal;axy.
The best film Marvel have made thus far, loved it. smile

The Descendants...fking hell, not sure when the last film I watched (save for above) as good as this was on the box. Had no idea what it was about, watched it because of Clooney, he does good work. fking brilliant, had me enraptured.

Hmm. It was good. But predictable. Had it pinned from the beginning. Really hoped I was wrong. I wasn't. I'm obviously of that mindset. I did say I was starting a diary myself when I got home...

Best bit for me was this during the intermission though

For those that know where I was this is my new favourite 'cinema'. I've been a few times now. Love hanging my jacket up on the wall and laying back in the chairs. So comfortable and such an enjoyable experience.
