Have any of you folks who have watched Gone Girl also read the book? If so how does it compare? I caught the review of the film by Mark Kermode on BBC News and he mentioned that the storyline has been amended for the film.

Ghosts of Girlfriend Past.
A brilliant reworking of A Christmas Carol, with a strong ensemble cast given real characters.
A great redemption film, sitting very nicely below Muppets, Scrooged and Groundhog Day.

Frantically trying to finish the book before I head to the cinema to watch the film. Yes, Gillian Flynn amended the screenplay to change the ending to essentially keep those who had read the book interested.

Cheers. I started reading the book just before midnight last night, ended up staying up till 05:00 when I finally finished it. Cracking read, need to get to cinema on my next day off from work to see how the film compares.

funnily enough watched this with mrs Irocfan on sunday and really enjoyed it - predictable? Of course, but it is fun and Matty boy makes for an engaging enough lead (to be fair he should be a lot bigger than he is because he does have presence)

The Descendants...fking hell, not sure when the last film I watched (save for above) as good as this was on the box. Had no idea what it was about, watched it because of Clooney, he does good work. fking brilliant, had me enraptured.
I liked this too....real surprise. The scene in the hospital where he's talking to his wife is so powerful. Great stuff

300: Rise of an Empire.

Much fighting, destruction and Eva Greens top bks.

Worth it just for the latter.

8/10.

I did like this and I liked the style - When watching, I just imagined that was how the ancient story tellers told the story, with all the exaggerated animals and enemies, and everything a little OTT.

Horns - Harry Potter does the devil bit.

Very good. In fact a really great watch and just so very different from what I expected. Raw, a few 'oooph' moments and a few laugh out loud moments. Recommended.

What we did on our holiday.

Went at the behest of the Mrs, was a good laugh and light hearted enough. Same writer as Outnumbered and a good hour and a half. smile

Watched Ride Along yesterday - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1408253

It was cliched with a particularly predictable plot but I thought it was great, very silly and good humoured throughout. Even had Ice Cube quoting some of his own lyrics.

7/10

I just saw Gone Girl.

Not much I can say without spoiling anything really - all I will say is GO SEE IT ASAP!

Its fantastic, an easy 9/10 which would have been a 10 if it wasn't for a very minor plot hole.
Fantastic wasn't it.
Indeed. One of the best films I've seen this year. Rosamund Pike absolutely nailed it, along with every other cast member. It had the most unpredictable story ever and I was on the edge of my seat with my jaw scraping the floor for the entire film.

It was stunning. Loved it .
It really kept me on the edge of my seat and my opinions of the characters changed as the story ran.
Excellent.
Agreed with the above. The music was astonishingly good.

Almost didn't bother with this as the title and synopsis made it sound like a silly fairytale, but it's actually an engrossing film with some great visuals and a good story, I enjoyed it. Slightly disappointed maybe they could have made it more ambiguous whether he was getting lost in his dreams or leaving them behind, but hey this is Hollywood. Loved the scene with the heli, and thought the interactions with his boss and the dating admin were fun.

Two great films in two days - this and Chef. I'm on a roll! smile
I quite enjoyed Chef too!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Loved it - I've had a colourful life so far where I've ended up doing some odd stuff - often feels like I'm bullstting when talking to some.

That bit when he skateboards downhill to that town has a huge impact on me every time I watch it. I find myself ready to jack my job in, sell everything I own, and just "go".

Fortunately (?) my wife brings me down to earth. biggrin

Saw The Equalizer last night.

Denzel picks up where he left off with Man on Fire, Inside Man, Deja Vu, etc etc. Typical Denzel film, lots of bad guys die, Denzel has the agility and speed of a ceetah, despite being a pensioner working at a local DIY store.

Story is OK, no where near as good as Man on Fire, just another film pumped out to make a studio some money. Worth a watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
