Lego Movie - fantastic! Definitely reckon it was written more for adults more than for kids biggrin
Man of Steel - Thought this would be rubbish but actually enjoyed it. Some fight scenes over-long and quite 'dark' in tone compared to the Christopher Reeve original, but otherwise good.

Went to see Fury earlier today. Really loved it. The action scenes were great if a bit gory in places but great acting from all the principles especially Brad Pitt. Would give it 9/10.

I watched Edge of Tomorrow yesterday really enjoyed it - it had some funny moments too - not sure if they were genuinely intended.

prob 7.5 / 10 for me half a mark off for the editing which was so fast at times it was practicalyl impossible to even register images before another cut.

enjoyed it though

Locke

Interesting movie, dont know how they got Tom Hardy on board, I thought it would be really dull but it was actually ok to watch, just a guy in his car talking on the phone for 1hour 30 mins. 7/10

Saw this a few weeks ago, as a film it shouldn't work, but I thought it was a good watch. I think Tom Hardy choices a lot of different roles to avoid being pigeon-holed as a one dimensional actor, and when you look at the list of his previous work it does show adaptable he is.

Just finished watching Chasing Mavericks starring Gerard Butler. Really enjoyed it, one that I would definitely recommend.

Had to watch Maleficent to determine if it would be suitable for my 6yo daughter.

It isn't, but it's not a bad film. It seems stuck between an adult's film and a kid's film somewhere - it's quite dark yet it's clearly a Disney fantasy. With nothing else to watch it wasn't a wasted wasted evening even though it's not my usual taste.

5/10 - Sharlto Copley is a good baddie.

So it's definitely in this thread and not the other one, some great action scenes, a little bit cheesy but impossible to dislike, very tense and thoroughly watchable without being on a par with Saving Private Ryan.

There is a long and awkward scene in the middle with a German household, not sure any of it felt realistic - like the director was trying to do a Tarantino talkie bit. Not sure it belonged there at all really.

And the ending is a little bit Hollywood in stark contrast with the grit and guts of the rest of the movie

A solid 8/10

funny thing is mrs Irocfan and I came out of the cinema with this very thought - maybe too dark for the young 'uns but not dark enough for the mid-teen upwards market. Did enjoy it though with some good performances and glorious visuals. I'd be looking at a healthy 78%

Watched Transcendence yesterday - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2209764

Looked good, was half interesting but ultimately felt a bit hollow and never pulled me in to care.

So whilst not a 'Good' film as such it's going here until there's a 'Indifferent Films I watched this weekend' thread.

6/10

Also watched Cloud Atlas - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1371111 , I enjoyed it TBH, looked great and again was a half interesting idea, but it's another Wachowski film that wants to think that it's far more deep and 'spiritual' than it really is, simply, by, speaking, slowly, to convey, wisdom. When in reality it's a bit shallow. Left me a bit disappointed by the time the credits rolled, however it's interesting enough to warrant a recommendation. Hopefully Jupiter Ascending lives up to the hype.

6.5/10

Just watched 'Snowpiercer' - not sure what to make of it tbh. It's very quirky yet has an extremely strong cast with Tilda Swinton being the standout performance.

Some great ideas but not sure it worked 100% and there were so many plot holes I gave up worrying about them after a while.

Yup, it's actually pretty dam funny and Anna Kendrick is quite watchable which makes the movie easy to like.

Watched the new turtles movie. It was much better than I expected after hearing a few iffy reviews. I didn't know Michael Bay was involved but I said to my Mrs the bits with the Shredder in were very transformers esk so wasn't surprised to find that he'd produced.

I loved the cartoons and films as a kid so it gets extra points for nostalgia. Why on gods green earth Megan Fox felt the need to plastic surgery I don't know but she looks like a porcelain doll......

I'm not expecting Oscar winning material but if you were being critical the story line was paper thin and the ending pretty much the same as the Amazing Spider man reboot........

The turtles were good though and think it's doing well enough there'll be sequel or 5.....

6.5/10

Also Pitch Perfect is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me also wink

I've got to agree with this, I've watched it and have no idea if I saw a good film or a bad film.....

Indeed - I can't work out if it's a bad film with some really good bits or a good film with some really dumb bits.

The Selfish Giant. IMDB link

A story about two young lads who get involved with the local scrap dealer. A good film, but not for those who need a happy ending to a film.

Friends brought round This is The End on Saturday.

I thought it would be heinously bad as I wasn't a fan of Pineapple Express, but as an amusing and very silly 'brain-off-munch-popcorn' film it was quite enjoyable. The cameos were effective, most of the jokes were good (some were very bad and uncomfortably long) and the self-deprecation was nicely balanced.
