Didn't know anything about this before watching it, really great film. Looked wonderful and had me gripped from the start. Jolie nailed the role perfectly.

8/10
Its a great film - and IIRC sadly its a true story.
Is it? Wow!

The Book of Life

Took my 2 girls today (5 & 3) and they both kept still through most of it which is always a good sign.

Great kids film tbh, visually excellent too. I'd definitely recommend it.

7/10

Maleficent

Surprisingly good tbh, quite enjoyed it.

Nightcrawler

An odd film, you don't have anyone to root for or admire as the central character is pretty horrid but the film is well put together. Definitely worth watching

Riot Club.

Good film but not sure if I enjoyed it although I felt that that was the point. Now have a small thing for Holliday Grainger though! 8/10.

Fury.
Good film but could have been great. 7/10.

Beware of the internet stream.

I spent most of season 3 of Breaking Bad wondering WTF the Mexicans were talking about as I had no subtitles.

That reminds me of my sister in law who after watching a very poor pirate of Wall E, told me it was crap, couldn't understand what was going on. Turned out when I had a look at it, she had watched the whole thing filmed by a camera in a cinema....in Russia, all the dialogue was in Russian.laugh

Now one of her favourite films.

Can anyone explain to me why The Evil Dead is meant to be a cult classic? I know it's meant to be over the top but it was just a bit st really.

I did the same thing with Million Dollar Arm. Large parts of that really do require subtitles!

Into the Storm - 3/10 a modern take on Twister almost, storm cashers want to get into the eye of the storm. Naturally along some cast members die, there is great danger and its the biggest storm to ever hit the land in a billion years.

Tripe. The only plus point was the chap from Are you faster than a redneck was in it.

I think you need to see it in context. I am old enough to have seen it when it was new and it was a genre changer. Frankly, they could have stopped making horror films after that and just gone straight to the Scary Movie piss-takes.

Also, the trilogy does a very successful horror -> action -> comedy shift.

Joe (2013 starring Nicolas Cage): 7/10

Gritty acting from Tye Sheridan and Gary Poulter.

I found the latter's performance outstanding (made rather poignant due to his death in 2013).

Not many 'laughs' but a different film and rather good for it.

Just went to see Interstellar. Brilliant flick, very much wants to be the next 2001 but it does it with a great style nonetheless.

Deffo on the must see list for me.

Dawn of the planet of the apes.
I enjoyed it more than the very good first film.

A wanted man.
Spy thriller set in Germany. Well worth a watch.

Automata.
Sci-fi in a similar vein to I-Robot but set after a solar storm has wiped out most of life on earth and most jobs are performed by robots. Its ok.
