Gone Girl

Outstanding film, the true embodiment of "the mental". Brilliantly done with plenty of unexpected bits to go with the bits you sense are coming. Solid 9/10 because there isn't really a 10/10 yet as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, just watched this and I thought it was brilliant too. I had high hopes because it's a David Fincher film and it didn't disappoint.
Massive Fincher fan and got the expected great script, performances, cinematography and soundtrack.

I did find the whole setup rather contrived though TBH and I'm not convinced it's anywhere near as clever as it thinks it is. Even so there is still no one out there who makes a better thriller so 8/10, just not quite up there with Se7en and Zodiac for me.

Watched 'Begin Again' recently with Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightly. Was surprisingly very enjoyable, especially if you're into bands/music.

The Descendants...fking hell, not sure when the last film I watched (save for above) as good as this was on the box. Had no idea what it was about, watched it because of Clooney, he does good work. fking brilliant, had me enraptured.
I liked this too....real surprise. The scene in the hospital where he's talking to his wife is so powerful. Great stuff
Only just caught up with this on the sky box where our daughter had recorded it. As above, I wasn't looking forwards to it but had to concede to a film with emotions but my word what a bloody superb film. Not a single performance was below par and I loved it.

Highly recommended.

Hugo a Martin Scorsese film from 2011. Obviously passed me by at the time.

What a wonderful movie. Mrs R brought it home months ago and neither of us have ever been bothered to watch it till last night. For me, it was an absolutely unexpected gem. Last film I watched where I sat down with a "meh, can I be bothered with this" and came away from it with a "bloody hell, how good was that!!" was Fried Green Tomatoes. Maybe I am just a softie smile

The Equalizer

All I can say is this... There had better be a bloody sequel.

I liked it. A slightly more intelligent Taken.
Another 1 for The Equalizer; for me one of Danzel's best performances and movie of the year!

Highly recommended absolutely gorgeous old beemers 2000, 3.0csl, 635, M1, M3 and some great footage and interviews with anyone who was anyone in BMW Motorsport.

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. Got to love this. Films just don't have as much charm anymore.

Just watched Predestination. If people think Inception was a headfook, avoid this one. Paradoxical time loops ahoy. However, very well done and worth a watch.

Ever since I posted about this film a week or two ago everybody who has seen it has liked it.

Great twist on a tired genre.

Passchendaele. A Canadian film. The battle scenes are better than in Saving Private Ryan. Not bad at all for a fiver from BHS.

Wouldn't go so far as to say movie of the year, but I found it very enjoyable.
Its Man on Fire but Denzel and the girl he is doing it for are just 20 years older hehe

LOL.

Reminds me of when I was married and took the (now ex) wife to see Sin City. I bloody loved it, and came out of the cinema buzzed. She said that she'd take a while to forgive me for exposing her to such depravity and wanted 2 hours of her life back. Oh well. biggrin

Gone Girl.

Overhyped and miscast. Neither main character at all believable and movie should have been 45 minutes shorter. 5/10.

I rented three films from Amazon over the past couple of days:

Sin City 2 - Like what other's have said, it's OK but not as good as the first. A watch once film.

Lucy - I didn't mind this so much, preposterous yes, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) - This was a huge surprise for me, I really enjoyed it, not half as cheesy as I feared it'd be, and turned out to be the best of the movies we watched!

Nope..it wasn't a bad movie and we watched it 'til the end but it was disappointing. I found I disliked the male lead more and wondered whether this was plot device, poor directing or poor acting. The book fills in some holes and finishes far more convincingly according to my better half.
