Tom hardy continues to impress me. I would go so far as to say he has the range of Depp.
Anyway the film is a solid 7.5/10 and keeps you constantly engaged with some good twists.

Hobbit 3
Per the reviews it is one long fight scene, no character or plot and much of the fighting is 121 rather than huge set pieces like LOTR 3 which I loved. Overall enjoyable if you liked all the others but I have suffered a Tolkien overdose so only a 6/10 for me.

LOTR was much better than hobbit trilogy, stretching the hobbit to 3 was a step too far

Hardy can easily eclipse Depp, who now just signs up for any old tripe. I always thought he was massively overrated, and plays a lot on his rapidly fading good looks.

Yep

Depp is depp in every film. Sometimes he's a bit more ecentric and turns up a notch to captain jack. ( not saying he isn't entertaining just that he is just him)

No way could he make a film like bronson.

If you look at clips on YouTube where Bronson is talking about the film and hardy talking about it. He got him to a t. It's very impressive.

From I first saw him in Star Trek I thought he had a lot of talent but bronson really put him in my top 5 actors.

Hang on. I'm not sure if you guys are serious. Nothing goes over my head. I am too quick - and I would catch it.

Anyway Depp while having good look still eclipses most regarding having somewhat of a range, a sorely short talent amongst current hollywood actors. Scissorhands/Eating Gilbert/Alice/Pirates (tbf he does get cast in ever T Burton movie). (I think he did something with sponge bob square pants). I stand behind statement he has range.

Top Five.

I didn't hold out much for this. (Ended up watching this as Imitation was sold out).
Firstly - It's way better than the trailers. Amusing and laugh out loud. If you like Everybody hates Chris you'll like this
Secondly - Don't take a 7 year old kid and get flustered and have to remove them from the theater when it's 'R' rated... Hesus wept.
Anyway comedy/romcom solid 7. Not something you would regret spending few bucks on.

I know smile

Have you seen Das Leben Der Anderen? Also a very strong portrayal of the life in the communist era.

Gone Girl.

Successfully managed to avoid all the spoilers out there and was not disappointed.

A really unsettling, if heavily stylised (it is Fincher, after all), examination of what *really* motivates people. Although, ironically, the conclusion of the film and its hinging on a much earlier chance event raises some questions about the logic of the script itself...

8/10.

Having watched several new releases in the past few weeks:
Gone girl, Babadook, Nightcrawler, Equaliser, The Guest and a few more.

I must say I have been disappointed with all of them.. Barely getting above 6/10 for any of them.

Is there anything worth watching out there..?

I like the look of 'Unbroken'

Nightcrawler was fantastic in my opinion!

I've heard good things about it, but I found it obvious what was going to happen in the film the minute I saw the trailer.

I enjoyed Nightcrawler.

Gone Girl is absolutely marmite and has divided opinions between critics and Joe public, I can't work out whether I liked or really liked it. I avoided any spoiler-age but did have a guess pretty early on what was going on.

The Interview

It was OK but I wasn't expecting much, just a bit goofy throughout and they could have done a lot more with it but was mostly cheap humour at best.

We had the grandkids around for Xmas and in order to calm them we bought a DVD - Frozen. As luck would have it, demarcation came in and I and a son-in-law were detailed to babysit for it. We girded our loins.

However, I found the film quite remarkable. It was very entertaining. The story, despite being a traditional fairy tale base, was quite good. The singing was superb, the songs very good and the animation of high quality. I have to say I was impressed. Half the kids had seen the film before but they were still entranced.

So if you have to buy a DVD for entertainment of your, or others', kids which you would have to sit through Frozen isn't a bad choice.

Funny you should say that but I too watched Frozen today too for the first time. And I too really enjoyed it. I could happily watch it again right now in fact.

(Although I should probably confess that I was looking forward to it and really wanted to see it. smile )

I found myself whistling Let it go about 2 hrs after the film had finished. The singer, Kristen Bell(?) could certainly belt it out.

I might even take the grandkids to see the stage show when it comes out.

I hate doing the "+1 thing"... but I also watched Frozen and thought it was great and really good entertainment. Looking forward to the next opportunity to watch it.

That track was sung by the older sister character, performed by Idina Menzel. And coincidentally she uses the "belt" technique.

Ask me how I know?.. said the father of a 6yo daughter. smile
