The Dambusters was on this week late one afternoon. They didn't edit out the name of Gibson's dog and it could be quite clearly heard many times during the film.
Possibly too difficult. The DD edit is one that has been on before. Always annoys me what they do to Ghostbusters as well.

Stunning.

(Apologies for posting in 'it's the best film of the year' too)
I received that for Christmas but haven't got round to watching it yet. Really looking forward to it though.

The Thomas Crown Affair
Not the crappy remake by old 007 but the original with Steve McQ.
I,m watching some great movies on a Canal+ digibox in Paris and its been a movie feast this end to 2014. Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train just before, Wild Bunch last night, but sadly back to my cheapie free view tomorrow.
But the TCA - what a movie, '..that little red Italian thing', the beach buggy, for us PH's, and the stunning Faye Runaway never looked better, straight out of Vogue.
Great, original caper story too. Cool music as well.
Anybody want to argue against a solid 10/10.

Dallas buyers club.

Critically acclaimed films have a tendency to be a bit luvvie for my tastes.

I found it an Amazing film with two of the best character portrayals of any film I have seen this year.

I had very low expectations but it was quite entertaining, and how they persuaded some of the big names to take part I have no idea hehe

o.k bare with me, a Lithuanian gangster set film, starring vinnie jones as a hard man. Now don't expect great acting or a great story but pretty funny adventures with a exRussian twist..

eight out of ten

'A young British soldier (Jack O'Connell) must find his way back to safety after his unit accidentally abandons him during a riot in the streets of Belfast.'

pretty good look at the troubles and some 'blinding' acting..

eight and a half out of ten

The Babadook

Mark Kermode's film of the year for 2014. yikes

Distinctly average so he's seeing something I'm not.

Critics eh? rolleyes

6/10 from me.

The Theory of Everything. Beautiful film. Considering it wasn't my choice, and my children were present (their choice - I'd have been happy with Paddington hehe) who are budding Mathmetical Astronomical Physicist Science types, and a fantastic choice it was. Great direction and acting, beutiful cinematography (I'm Cambridge and my children want to go to college there), moving and funny. I cried my eyes out almost from start to finish.

Nice to watch a 'simple' film for a change, no big budget explosions and CGI.

A lovely way to spend an afternoon with loved ones.

I know how you feel!

I often hate films that are 'critically acclaimed' or get rave reviews by professional critics, and love ones that get absolutely panned in reviews.

Like was said a few posts earlier, I think that critically acclaimed films are far too 'luvvy' or hammed up for my liking. I actually think critics go out of their way to get all excited about some slow paced hammy yarn that sends the rest of us to sleep.

Sometimes I just want to see someone who can't act very well blow something up or shoot someone in the face.

On sky Store now. Sex Tape starring Cameron Diaz. The critics have panned it, but I thought it was hilarious.

'Hilarious' in the sense of "There's Something About Mary" where she inadvertently uses semen as hair gel, or actually funny?

Me too. Generally the more hyped a film is, the worse it is.

Nightcrawler with Jake Gylenhall
Fantastic film, a little slow to start but his acting is immense, a rather original plot, well shot and directed, a few oscars deserved for sure.

Watched quite a few films over the Xmas break.

Fury
Brad Pitt puts on his war face, and together with his tank crew (all unlikeable aholes) teach a new soft recruit about the horrors of war, and how evil the Germans are, while themselves murdering prisoners and (essentially) raping girls.
Disappointed with this as I was looking forward to seeing it. I wanted “Saving Private Ryan on caterpillar tracks” and I got “Rambo and the Retards in: Dude wheres my Tank?”
The last 45 min were ridiculous, though I suppose it was a good action film if you approach it not expecting anything serious. Noticed a few other bits from other films – someone asks Brad “Why wont they just give up?” and he replies “Would you?” which was almost exactly the dialogue at the big fight at the start of Gladiator. Then someone stops a soldier shooting some burning German solidier “No let them burn” which im sure is a copy of the start of SPR.
5/10

The Conjuring
A while back I watched the first 2 minutes and it scared me so I switched it off. The other night I manned up and watched it all, and the rest of the film wasn’t that bad, apart from a few textbook jumps. Essentially a very standard “Amityville Horror” plot – family moves into old house and things start happening, paranormal investigators help them overcome it. All very well done though.
6/10

The Babadook
Not as scary as Mark Kermode led me to believe (and I jump easily in horror films), but an interesting and fresh take on the genre. Reminded me more of The Shining in its themes – a young boy with a wild imagination and possible behavioural problems, and uncertainty whether you are really watching a film about supernatural occurrences, or the insanity of the parent taking over.
A few bits made me shiver 7/10

Gone Girl
Disappointed by this – started off great, really fascinating watching everything develop. But as soon as the big reveal happened (very early on) it just became a bit silly and way too far fetched, and full of “B-b-but you wouldn’t do that!” moments. Great as a satire of the way the media can shape public opinion of people though.
6/10

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
More of the same. Still a good watch though.
7/10 (Eva Green 10/10)

This Is Spinal Tap and The Godfather were on TV last night. The Godfather 2 is on tonight. It doesn't get much better than that.

The Interview
Franco is great, the rest is average. N Korea did the exact popposite of what they should have done. Without them this would have sunk without trace. 5.5/10

Foxcatcher A well acted, slow dull true story about US wrestlers, the olympics and family issues, gets a WTF ending to lift it somewhat....in a mass of wham bang CGI, this is a decent serious bit of cinema. 7.6/10
