Just finished watching Chopper.

Eric Bana is brilliant as Mark "Chopper" Read. Totally unhinged, yet funny and strangely charismatic, much like the man himself. The film, despite depicting brutal violence carried out by a ruthless psychopath, manages to have some (darkly) funny, laugh-out-loud moments and great lines. 8/10

Also must mention two that I've watched recently.

Sexy Beast, if only for Ben Kingsley's performance. Probably the best bit of acting I've seen for some time. Absolutely brilliant in an over the top, shouty way and so many darkly hilarious scenes. IMHO,he should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of Don. One of the great film villains and so quotable. "I gotta change my shirt, it's sticking to me. I'm sweating like a ." "Why are you swearing, I'm not swearing?" "Someone's touched me, touched my front... my front bottom." hehe 8/10 10/10 for Ben/Don.

Get Carter. Obviously the originalbiggrin For me, the greatest British gangster film and also one of the great films per se. Michael Caine is immense and is a world away from his usual cheeky cockney persona.. I love that almost everyone in the film is shown as flawed/unpleasant in some way and the scenes with Ian Hendry showcase the (real life) intensity and antipathy between him and Caine. Gritty, bleak and brilliant. 9/10

I didn't know about the Henry/Caine rivalry so I've just had a look see on Google. This explains it well:

Very interesting. Thanks for pointing it out.

The Theory of Everything - terrifically good film with (surely ) and Oscar winning performance from Eddie Redmayne. If he retired tomorrow and be proud of what he achieved in this film . An infinitely better film than the overhyped Imitation Game which , Cumberbatch's wonderful acting apart , is ploddingly simplistic and ridden with anachronistic language.
Might be given a run by Michael Keaton in Birdman

Very original, some very funny bits, but also some surreal bits that many won't like - very much a critics film, fantastic acting, but some bits are plain weird 7/10

I watched 'Now you see me' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1670345

A silly film about illusionists who pull of a series of heists under the noses of the FBI.

It's a bit too far fetched in places but quite well executed and enjoyable to watch.

7/10

Also saw the extended cut of 'A Million Ways to Die in the West', I saw this at the cinema and thought it was a little bit 'meh', possibly the effect of being at the cinema but watched the BD version which is miles better, loads more jokes and flows better, recommended.

7.5/10

The Grand Hotel Budapest - I've hated every other Wes Anderson film I've seen but good reviews and curiosity got the better of me. Anderson's brand of quirkiness irritates me where others find it appealing. That said, the story and acting (not Owen Wilson) overcame the direction and it warrants a cautious recommendation. 6/10

Really, I find it to be the worst. I found Lazenby to be utterly dire. Give me Sean any day.

The 0.5 reduction from a perfect score is mainly due to the very dated production design (it could be argued that this adds to the charm) and the ROUS which looked low rent even back in the 80's.
That said 9.5 does seem a bit harsh...

9.9/10

I watched it at the weekend, one of the best films I've seen in a long time. One of the few films I wish were longer.
Just fantastic.

The Drop - good film, although I had to remind myself what it was about. Oh yeah, Gandolfini got killed. Ba5tards!
Didn't understand though, was it all planned by Tom Hardy's character, or he's just a plain heartful maniac?

Noomy Rapace was out of place, the Belgian guy looked fine.
6.5/10

ETA Sorry, was tired last night.
