Matrix is miles ahead for me.
It pre-dated Matrix and had a much smaller budget, though.

Incidentally, if you ever have a chance to see the TV movie "Virtual Nightmare" (2000) then it's worth a watch. It very rarely gets shown on telly and has never been released on DVD. It's very low budget but has an interesting Inception-like premise of nested simulated realities.

Another film dealing with simulated reality is "Dark City". I've not seen it but have heard good things about it.

Alien 3 director's cut - still didn't make much sense, but was vastly better then theatrical version. 6/10
What's the difference between the two?

I thought it was very good (bar the end) and only suffers due to how good the original and 2 were due to their benchmarks.

Blue Ruin Watched on Netflix. Guy seeks revenge for a crime committed to his family years go.... Made for $38,000...thats thirty eight thousand dollars....this has hardly any script, no name actors (one is the directors best mate), but I found it a really tense, well acted, highly original revenge thriller and very watcheable. 7.7.
Decent gore effects too...

Most of the minor plot holes have been addressed. The ending is slightly different and makes more sense.

Come on! I am actually interested in seeing this, so some details would be useful please, rather than a single horrible Americanism smile

American sniper shoots people

he was a nice guy,
starts shooting people,
is still a nice guy,
shoots more people,
turns into a screwball,
struggles to deal with people he's shot.

I've not seen it but I do, im guessing its like this.

Prisoners.
Dark, slightly gothic, film noir type thriller. If I hadn't known I would have thought it had been directed by David Fincher.
Excellent acting & very tense with a feeling of imminent doom throughout.
8.5/10

Edge of Tomorrow.
Tom Cruise saves the world (again) in Groundhog Day meets War of the Worlds. Preferred Emily Blunt with a little bit more meat on her bones, looking a bit gaunt, so that knocks 0.5 off the score.
8/10

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Decent CGI & quite engaging storyline, though of course it's all been done before. Good film though.
7.5/10

Sorry, i'm pretty awful at describing and writing reviews. Only thing I can say is I thought it was brilliant. Bradley Cooper played the role really well and I will be seeing it again when it comes out smile

Not seen it but according to Empire it is a bit of both - they said it was the most tense and thrilling Iraq war film yet.

The Theory of Everything - Biopic of Stephen Hawking. Unfortunately focused more on his physical state than his mind but not a bad film overall. Well acted and Felicity Jones was rather moreish. 6/10

Finally (after several aborted starts) got round to watching Lone Survivor last night.

Enjoyed it more than I expected. Found it pretty tense and liked the pace they ramped things up at. Yes, it was a bit OTT in places, and all a bit US of A towards the end but over all I really enjoyed it.

8/10 I think. Maybe.
