Source Code: 6.5/10

A soldier is sent back in time in the mind of a bombing victim to solve what happened before more strikes are made.
The science and time lines in this can be a bit questionable, which will ruin it for some, but I found it a good movie with a good side story on the soldier himself.

Django Unchained: 8/10

Tarantino doing what he does basically. Christoph Waltz was very good in this I thought, great action and of course, plenty of gore.

What we did on our holiday.

Dysfunctional family travel to Scotland for grandads last birthday party. Funny enough in places, even a little moving in others. An enjoyable film over all. 7/10.

Fury

The action makes the film intresting enough, but due to the "bitty" way the story is portrayed, at no point did I feel particularly enaged with any of the characters. 5 /10

Just watched Kingsman at IMAX; WOW what a fun film; can't remmeber the last time I enjoyed a film so much. The church scene goes right to the top of my favourite movie fight scenes list!

I saw Kingsman last night.

Not sure I've ever seen a film with a thinner plot, but my goodness me what an enjoyable couple of hours. The fight seen in the church had people laughing out loud and saying "WTF"!

9/10 from me smile

I've been thinking about this film all night (a true sign that I enjoyed it); it's not perfect but I'd also give it a 9/10 and sorely tempted to go back and see it again in the cinema (something I never do).

I read on the bad films thread someone ripping it apart saying it was rubbish and the crappy CGI was out of place. Spoiler alert, but at one point ~100 people's heads explode; but just like the slaughter scene in Kill Bill - if it was done realistically they would have been told to cut it by the censors. I didn't realize until afterwards it was made and written by the same team behind Kick Ass; and seeing as Kingsman itself was adapted from original source, I think the comic-booky effects aren't misplaced at all. Oh and the very final scene must have been written by the 15-year old intern.

But that's just my IMO.

I did notice one glaring plot hole in Kingsman too:

There is a huge class-based undercurrent in the film - is Eggsy "one of them" - the public school, aristocratic Kingsman? But wasn't Eggsy's dad (the original Lancelot) a Kingsman and saved Colin Firth's life? By the look of Eggsy's mum, if he was an aristocrat he was definitely dipping it in a bit of rough!

I also think I might be a little bit in love with the actress who plays Lancelot Mk2.

I actually really liked Source Code.

I'd have given it at least 8.5 and maybe 9 and I'm a harsh critic.

I think the background to it was reasonable, and the twist was very good. I think with sci-fi, to enjoy it, you have to presume the artificial position they are in is scientifically correct and go with the flow. The best sci-fi is the story underneath the artificial position, and in Source Code, there was some quite thought provoking quandaries.

OHMSS.

Easily my favourite Bond film - although I am aware that not many share my opinion.

Super-stylish, great dialogue, great locations & scenery, believable story (relatively speaking - for the genre). Love it thumbup

Justin we have similar views again smile

I like Jake Gyllenhaal as a lead too so that helps.

Oh, I dunno. I think many people acknowledge it near to the top of their list, if not THE top. It's my fav too, despite some of the obvious issues (voice dubbing being the worst).

Oh, ok. Times/tastes must have changed then - used to be that any mention of OHMSS would illicit not much more than pithy descriptions of how 'wooden' GL was, how he was the worst Bond and that the film didn't compare well with the others - including on here.

Or I was talking to the wrong people....

I like a good time travelling yarn.... Source Code for me is better than Predestination...and on a par with Looper.

For time travelling lovers who seek a decent film I notice "Somewhere in Time" is on Netflix shortly...not sci-fi, in fact it's near as damn it a chic-flic....but one of my faves.

No, I think the comments you've heard are fair. Those arguments have raged on since the film was released but I think modern reflection is kinder to the film now. Overall I reckon people like the film but opinion on GL seems as split today as it has always been. Almost everyone loves Ms Rigg - and so they should. In fact I've heard praise regarding the way GL handled her death at the end but overall his acting won't ever be compared with the greats.

It usually comes out favourably in polls when compared to others in the series.

The Wedding Ringer - Missus won the coin toss on this vs The imitation game that I wanted to see.
It hit the right nerve with me and found it absurdly funny* - The bit where they kidnap the groom... I honestly nearly spat my drink out.
For comedy and entertainment 9/10

Really? I don't think a large minority (let alone a Majority) do.

The plot's a bit hokey and Lazenby was awful (sorry, but he was...), but there are some good set pieces and a great Bond-Villain lair.

If you're ever near Murren go and visit, it's brilliant and if you've a lift pass it's free to get in! Great ski down too! smile

From what I have read, GL was not an actor, he was a model who was in the right place at the right time. I thought the film was great as it had a good story and a twist at the end that was unexpected.
GL got better through the film and the end scene was very good.
Had he not taken the advice of his agent who suggested he would be type cast, he would have done better. Roger Moore was okay for how the films developed, slap stick almost with gadgets, but if GL had seen the scripts maybe that is why he jumped
