I notice Kingsman has just appeared to buy on Amazon prime - is it worth getting?
"Where are you going?"
"To save the world?"
"Oh. Come back and fk me up the arse"

hehe

Completely random line.
Great movie.
It has some nice moments. In the 'Hot Fuzz' mode, but not as good. Still worth a watch mind. 7/10

Watched the new Mad max film last night (three adult tickets cost a whopping £7.50!)

I quite enjoyed it, but my wife and 19 year old step son hated it. Not sure why it is rated at 15, it's more of a 12, I thought.

Went to see Mad Max last night too, only it was fully booked and had to watch Tomorrowland instead.

The first 20 minutes are painfully slow and add very little to the story. The rest of the film is like being preached to by the Church of Disney with Clooney as the Pope! They've also plucked two child actors based more on their aesthetic fit for the roles rather than any acting abilities.

The only redeeming feature is that the CGI is done very well.

4/10.

I saw mad max last night, place was more than half empty and they only had a standard not 3D showing so that was good.

Loved it. Action packed and enough story to keep the action moving along. A beautifully realised world that obviously had a lot of thought put into it even if they didn't explain anything to you. It didn't hand hold at all and that was fine seeing as the whole plot was essentially 'escape'
I like the homages they put in to the originals, some of the decidedly un-hollywood bits and the fact that the majority of it was physical and not CGI. 9/10

Danny Collins

light-hearted, unchallenging, somewhat cliched vehicle for Al Pacino, however it is bloody funny in parts

park your Barry Norman, take a bottle of wine or two (as we do) and you will thoroughly enjoy yourself

for the very funny moments 7/10

In The Loop
Political comedy about a British minister trying to prevent us and the Americans getting involved in a war. Bloody funny in most parts, great cast but very strong language throughout, not that that bothers me!

Big Hero 6

Really funny family friendly computer animated comedy. The character of 'Baymax' gets top billing in the credits and it's easy to see why, he is brilliant! Whenever he is on screen he steals it completely.

Fist bumps will never be the same again laugh

For animated movies I would say this one is a very solid 9.5/10

After enjoying Ex machina again I decided to watch 'The Machine' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2317225

Similar concept to the 80's DAYRL a cyborg developed to be a soldier turns out to have a concious and doesn't really want to be a soldier. It's a fairly predictable plot that has been borrowed from many a better film before it.

The film looked like it was made for about £50 and it amused me that the musician has deliberately used synth presets to make it sound more like Blade Runner.

But whilst there's plenty to knock I half enjoyed it, was nice to see a British film also.

6/10
An acquaintance of mine was actually one of the producers of The Machine.

You are not too far off with the budget there.... wink If I remember correctly the budget was only just into seven figures if that. With that knowledge I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the SFX.

I thought your rating of the film is fair though. The concept was great, and it's always good to see well thought out sci-fi even if the execution is not perfect. Much like Automata IMHO.

The last time I spoke to him he told me about one of his new projects, "Let's Be Evil". The concept is set in the near future where everyone wears 'Google Glass' type glasses which allow us to communicate and control things wirelessly. The story is shot from the viewpoint of looking through the glasses. I think it's in production at the moment.

Re-watching Gran Torino. Such a fantastic film.

Even though I can never decide on top 10 lists, Gran Torino is my second definate after 12 Angry Men.

When it comes to Mad Max original is best for me.
Why?
By far the most simple and original storyline with zero flannel and none of the additional nonsense of the later films. Still like the sequels, but they are blockbuster sequels.
I've just watched Mad Max 1 and 2 pretty much back to back as I hadn't seen them for a long time and was curious to see if my thoughts were still correct.

If anything it just reinforced my original views, the second one is just filled with more action but has pretty much zero character development or building of the storyline and a poor script with inferior art direction. I just couldn't feel any emotional attachment to any of the characters compared to the original, Goose and the eccentric police captain are two shining examples another one is when Max's wife is run over I felt sad because you actually get to know her in the film.

Don't even get me started on the bad guys, in the original they are an unpredictable drug fueled motley crew compared to 2 which has some serious gay bondage issues going on which I don't remember being as prominent last time I watched it, I just couldn't take them seriously.

I think the original has actually went up in my estimation, which is pretty unusual for me when watching a film from years ago.

Mad Max Fury Road
A feast for the eys if not for the intellect and script writers...
As said elsewhere its a massive explosion filled chase movie.
It kept my attention, took me to a post apocolyptic Namibia where weird and wonderous peoples and vehicles could be found...
I'm going with 7.1 and most of that is for the 'look' of the thing.

Apparently Tom Hardy has signd up for a further 3 Max films..???!! I struggle to see how they've added anything productive (story-wise) to the 1st let alone 3 more....

I guess one may consider the first part as a long trailer

The Amazing Spider-Man. I disliked the idea of such an early reboot, but watched this on ITstV and it was actually really good. Loved the Spider-Man and the way he was portrayed and there were enough twists to keep the story entertaining.
