Watched Shutter Island on Channel 4 tonight. Cracking film, I liked how it wasn't a sudden twist, it was turning slowly through the film, and then the last line happened .
Really enjoy Shutter Island too. The chat with Noyce spells it out for everyone but you still go along with Leo's alternate.cirian75 said:

That is a quality film, when the hell is Leo going to get an Oscar ?Iceberg Slim: Portrait of a Pimp
Prior to watching this film i didn't have a clue about the bloke apart from a couple of passing references in rap songs. Interesting chap and a well put together film with talking head sequences from the man himself (long since dead) his wives and daughters, Ice T, Snoop Dog, Chris Rock, Quincy Jones etc
One thing that's been bothering me with documentaries recently is not having any narration, the idea being to let the images / events / people do the talking I'm sure. Too often this seems to end up with a dull, disjointed film that's virtually impossible to follow unless you were actually there yourself. Plus you miss out on all the back, context and explanation that narration provides. Portrait of a Pimp does without narration and for once it didn't miss it. The negative for me was that it focused to much on the man, rather than what life is like as a pimp. Understandable given that it's a biographical film, of course. A solid 8/10.
Super 8
Not as good as i'd hoped it would be with J.J. Abrams at the helm. Some bits of plot that didn't stand up to scrutiny and a few too many clichés for my liking. Still an enjoyable film though. 6.5/10

In The Loop
Political comedy about a British minister trying to prevent us and the Americans getting involved in a war. Bloody funny in most parts, great cast but very strong language throughout, not that that bothers me!

Available for free on iPlayer at the moment. Downloaded to my iPad for my next flight. Political comedy about a British minister trying to prevent us and the Americans getting involved in a war. Bloody funny in most parts, great cast but very strong language throughout, not that that bothers me!

I always used to be luke warm about Armando Iannucci, then I gradually warmed to the humour, then really started to get into The Thick of It. But this film goes way, way better. I watched it from an iPlayer download on my commute - half there and half back and I found it laugh out loud funny (to the worry of my fellow commuters). Brilliant story, brilliantly delivered. I'd give it 9.9/10. I'm docking it 0.1 either for too much swearing or not enough, depending upon how you feel about the swearing !!
Armando Iannucci's political satire about a British minister who backs military action and becomes popular in Washington. With Peter Capaldi and James Gandolfini.http://bbc.in/1H9Qg8S
Whiplash. 8/10

A tad late, but TT: Closer to the Edge was on ITV this weekend. I've never really been big on bikes, but after watching that I just kind of 'got it.' Absolutely astounding film if you're into motoring, even if it's not the two-wheeled kind that you're familiar with. That said, it's not exactly for the faint of heart... a lot of slow-mo clips of flying high-speed bikes, and the tank-slapper landings will have you on edge no matter how many times you see them.
Just finished watching Faster with Dwayne (rock) Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton, one of those idle "let's see this on netflix" moments, and was actually really really good and worth a watch
