Margin Call for about the 4th time as it was on iPlayer last night. I really like this film even though it's uncomplicated or at least tries to present complicated things, simply.

I think the cast is really good; Spacey is his usual convincing self, Irons presents the 'fk everyone else' attitude of the banking industry and Demi Moore is hot as. I love the look and feel of it. Not sure about Bettany's accent though - was it an attempt at a transatlantic mockney hybrid?

A solid 8/10 for me.

i liked it too, it reminds me of glengarry. ross film, it feels like a play and so fast moving and interesting, relying on the actors.

Just finished watching Faster with Dwayne (rock) Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton, one of those idle "let's see this on netflix" moments, and was actually really really good and worth a watch

Dwayne's best film.
Caught me off guard. I stumbled upon it on Sky Movies and thought it was going to be a bit pants...It was ace. I love it when that happens.

Very Violent however a gripping plot - 8/10
I saw it yesterday and loved it. does what it says on the tin but that's not a criticism.

Best I've seen for a while. 9/10

Rubbish film imo, and I'm a big Denzel fan; he's completely invulnerable which takes away any suspense.
Out of interest what film of this type has a protaganist that is vulnerable in your view...

actually I've just thought of one ....Man on Fire.

The point is you know they're gonna win in the end, as with 99% of this kind of film, very few are genuinely vulnerable or make you feel they might lose...

I just watched 'Oblivion'. I must admit that when it came out I saw it had Tom Cruise in it and basically dismissed it. Woops.

I reckon it's seriously underrated. 7.0 on IMDB and 54/100 metacritic. I saw the new Mad Max the other night and thought it was really average, yet it has great reviews. I found Oblivion genuinely entertaining having not heard a single thing about the plot. Love the nods to Star Wars, 2001, Portal (game) and other sci-fi films. Also it has a great soundtrack to back it all up.

James Bond is a prime example. Part of the reason Game of Thrones is exciting, any of the main characters could be killed off in a horrible way, at any time.

Look I know its all personal taste, but 9/10? Really? What did you give Man on Fire - 11/10?

Wish I was so easily pleased. Solid movie 6.5/10 max

I think that when it does happen, it stands out more. Like in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I can't imagine a Bond film ending on a bum-note now.

Agreed Leon too...
I miss good dramatic sad endings...that weren't immediately obvious from the outset (Titanic smile )

Gran Torino is another one, but even Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and Raiders the protagonist had vulnerability ("it's not the age honey, it's the mileage"). Poor Mel's betrayal broke his brave heart, DiCaprio's left the building in Departed, Private Ryan's debt to a vulnerable hero, Arnie needs a holiday after meeting the T-1000, Maximus joining his family in the afterlife... christ even the classic A-Team TV series always had a major set-back half way through.

Worst example I've seen recently was probably Guardians of the Galaxy; faux emotion from killing a lead character off and then just brought them back to life, wtf? wobble
Yep, I agree with this, it's why I didn't like the equalizer...

Another one is mad max, still haven't seen the new one, but in the old ones he pretty much get's the crap beaten out of him, he's still wearing a leg brace in mad max 2 due to his injuries from the first film....

There's a difference between winning in the end and making it look easy.

very true, but sometimes you want to watch a film where you can sit back and watch revenge being dealt. (is the default scenario sadly, but it's still fun if done well)
Mr Wick for example...
and I for one enjoyed watching Mr equalizer sort his stuff out in readiness for a mass ass kicking smile

Good example of the hero being vulnerable

"Judge Dredd gets shot"

What is also so cool about that scene, is that he explains after the guy is killed.
