Good films I watched this weekend (Vol 2)
Discussion
I suppose this could go in either this or the Bad Film thread, depending on mood, but I enjoyed it in the spirit it was intended. Very reminiscent of some of the better '80's B-Movie horror efforts, with tongue very firmly in cheek. I think what makes this a slightly cut above the rest of this type of film is the acting, it isn't half bad! I give you:

Completely mental but I loved it (Mrs hated it).
The last scene is absolutely superb!
Wonderful isn't it? Good luck getting "I love you all" out of your head at any point in the next 6 months. Completely mental but I loved it (Mrs hated it).

Every now and then you come across a film that sounds rubbish but the reviews force you to watch it and it blows you away.
The last time I remember that happening was this thread's darling which was Intouchable.
Well last night I watched Whiplash which is a terrible sounding film about a wannabe drummer and his tyrannical teacher. Sounds like the most awful premise for a film and yet it jumped straight into my favourite film list. The acting, dialogue, pace and camerawork are utterly mesmerising and halfway through it you are dreading it finishing as you don't want it to stop. The finale made my hairs stand up and you could have kidnapped my children while I watched it.
9.75/10 and it is only my stubborn refusal to accept that a film can never be bettered that stops me giving it a 10

As I mentioned earlier, drummers should avoid this film The last time I remember that happening was this thread's darling which was Intouchable.

Only bettered by Franks 'most likeable song ever'.
"Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me Neferetiti"
The film had everything for me. Great acting, great script, fantastic music, laugh out loud moments and real emotion. One of my favourite films for quite some time.

I did wonder this but didn't think in real life there were any drummers older than about 8 Well. I have just sat and watched The Pianist again... for the third time. I believe that this should be mandatory viewing for every human being on this planet, and certainly anyone that seeks to make movies.
The odd thing is that it is a Roman Polanski film, and I have never really been a fan of his work. But the story of the sheer darkness, horror and human suffering with moments of ingenious survival instinct from one man and selfless assistance from others over 5 years of holocaust must make this one of the greatest stories ever to have been dragged from truth and retold on screen. I also love the way that music seems to transcend prejudice in short bursts, but that is just me I guess. Powerful imagery throughout, especially when he returns over the wall from the ghetto into the landscape which should have been familiar to him, brilliantly done with the main character as the only colour in a desolate backdrop.
A simply amazing piece of work. If you haven't seen it and have two and a half hours to spare, please do so, but be ready to ignore everything else around you, immerse yourself and engage deeply.

I saw it yesterday and loved it. does what it says on the tin but that's not a criticism.
Best I've seen for a while. 9/10
Look I know its all personal taste, but 9/10? Really? What did you give Man on Fire - 11/10?I saw it yesterday and loved it. does what it says on the tin but that's not a criticism.
Best I've seen for a while. 9/10
Wish I was so easily pleased. Solid movie 6.5/10 max
Reflective analysis suggests 7/10 might have been more appropriate.

Infamous. fking hell, Toby Jones performance is unreal. He is in my top 5 current fave actors.
The film itself is pretty decent, but it's Toby that had me riveted to the screen.
