Good films I watched this weekend (Vol 2)
Discussion
Kingsman on saturday night - kickass meets 007.
ultraviolent, funny at times and a fun way to spend a couple of hours.
Egerton's "Saaf london" accent was a bit crap and i couldn't see the funny side to samuel L jackson having a lisp.
Colin firth grabs the role with both hands and it looks like he really enjoys it.
6/10
Fury.
didnt really go anywhere, not sure Pitt was the right man for the role. good action sequences but falls prey to every american WWII cliche.
4/10

Chappie - Can't make up my mind on this but it certainly doesn't belong in the 'bad films' thread IMO. For a start I like it because it's not a Hollywood film and I like what Blomkamp did in D9. It has an 'urban slum' look and feel, and it makes no apology in being set in J'burg.
I know it's a work of fiction and sort of sci-fi but a few things in the story didn't fit for me, mainly that a headset could read the brain impulses of a human and be used on Chappie/a droid
THe 'other' robot was a bit too much like the one in Robocop unless that was an intentional homage.
I thought Jackman's character could've been a bit more menacing, Weaver's part was minor and I suspect she was cast just to appeal to the Yank audience. I don't feel she added much that a Saffer actor couldn't.
Yet it had its heart in the right place and though the AI angle wasn't really developed as much as I thought it would be, I felt empathy for the main characters. I didn't realise it was Sharlto Copley as Chappie until the credits. It's also nicely left for a sequel if they so wish.
Tentative 6.5/10 but worth a look

Pre Destination - Good movie, nice twists which I didn't see coming at all. 7/10 Stellar performance by lead female
I thought it was an interesting film but ultimately lacked any polish, making it forgettable and a bit contrived. Its almost as if the writer went out with the intention of making it the weirdest paradox they could think off and that really irked me Nightcrawler- Dark and grim story of an unemployed bloke who turns to filming car crashes and other crimes for money not long after they happen. Demonstrates the lack of morals both in the buying and selling, but also in the end viewer who is the demand. Jake Gyllenhaal is very good and Rene Russo plays the TV news buyer. Not a feelgood film. 7/10
Jurassic World
Much better than I expected & I watched it twice, first in 3D second in standard!!!! Sad I know it can state it's better on the imax in 3D
A lot of you may just hamper on about it being far fetched but it's about dinosaurs in not so present day.....
I think the cast were great with some funny script, though I kept expecting to hear 'I Am Groot'

London Road - a film created on the bizarre premise that a musical can be made about the Ipswich prostitute murders of a few years ago- on London Road. The script uses the exact wording of interviews - down to pauses ums and ahs - set to music.
Now obviously this was never going to work- bonkers concept, exploitative and who likes musicals anyway? I certainly don't .
BUT ..it works and is a hugely impressive film , with Olivia Colman putting in a sterling and very hard hitting performance. PC this film is not is all I will say ...

Id agree with that, worth a watch. Chappies voice got very irritating though!I know it's a work of fiction and sort of sci-fi but a few things in the story didn't fit for me, mainly that a headset could read the brain impulses of a human and be used on Chappie/a droid

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion... But you're just wrong. Jurassic Park (Original) - 6/10
The Purge: Anarchy was a mess. I enjoyed it - but a good film it was not.
JP is movie brilliance - with effects that stand up to this day, likeable characters and a simple but interesting plot.
Oh... And one of the best scores of all time!

Kajaki
British film telling the true story of a three man army patrol near the Kajaki dam in Afghanistan, 2006.
I've seen more than 1000 films, and I can very rarely say that films grip me to the edge of my seat, even less make me physically anxious.
A perfect film this is not, but it is visceral, harrowing and very realistic.
Great to see a very good British film, showing that you can still make great work to a budget. 8/10
