Really? The reviews would make you believe otherwise? I couldn't comment, I've only seen JW and I thought it was great.

agreed, I was disappointed, as was expecting more from such a cast...my score is so shaky I'm going for 5.5, that way it can fall either way depending on my mood.

A slow burn (as stated above), but a good film good and I thought Tom Hardy (+ supporting cast) gave a good performance.

Recommended.

PS "The Judge" (Duvall/Downey Jr) which I watched afterwards was something of a disappointment.
Agreed, the Judge was a snoozefest imho. I usually like that kind of film but it didn't do anything for me.
The drop was indeed worth the watch.

I thought The Judge was alright to be honest.

The acting was good, and the story was pretty good too. A lot of facets in there to bring the characters out.

Not my usual taste of film at all, this is very much a film the wife would approve of watching on a Saturday night type fodder, but a lot more integrity than the usual middle of the road crap.

Similar type of film to say 'The Descendants' or 'Up in the Air' for example.

7.3 and a bit.

6 is an average flick. Must have some plus points. Good if you want a fun film with a couple of pints.

7 must be generally a 'good' (better than average) film and have a lot of redeeming features.

8 must be a great film. No obvious bad points. Should have great acting, a tight script and have features that are potentially Oscar worthy.

9 is a truly great film. I've probably only thought of a dozen films ever to be a 9.

10. Space Jam
agreed - thought Jurassic World was a 6/10, a combination of dinosaurs and CGI 8/10, and plot/characters/tension 4/10

One of those films where within 10 seconds of meeting a new character you know whether they are going to fall in love/have personal redemption/go from ahole to hero/get eaten

The other rather naff aspect of Jurassic World was the fact that there must be rather few off-road Mercedes Benz models not shoe-horned into every other scene, almost Bond-esque in it's product placement.

Mr Holmes - brilliant performance from Ian McKellen as an elderly Sherlock reminiscing on a past case while losing his memory and befriending a young boy. A lovely touching movie with some really good performances 9/10

Danny Collins

Pacino's best film for a long, long time. Perfect casting all round and you can tell he really cares about the role.

Yes it's sentimental and a little manipulative, but I still really enjoyed it.

Two I wasn't expecting much from this weekend.

What we did on our holiday a separated couple (David Tennant and Rosamund Pike) take their 3 kids to Scotland for Grandad's 75th birthday. Made by the team behind Outnumbered and uses the same idea of being semi-scripted. Actually quite good for a PG - Billy Connolly's scenes with the kids were great. Let down by casting an Englishman as DT's brother - Ben Miller can't do a Scottish accent. 7/10.

Mortdecai J Depp plays a dodgy art dealer caught up in the search for a missing painting. Good fun and some of Depp's lines are great - his response to being asked if he needs help with his bags when checking in to a hotel, and a comment about Eton, are two that stuck in my mind. 8/10.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck - even if you haven't grew up in that era, you should watch it. One of the best documentaries I've seen. 9.531/10

Behind the Candelabra.

A film about Liberace. Not something that would immediately grab your attention, but Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are superb in it. It's got some very funny moments in it.

Rush. Brilliant. I really enjoyed it. I never realised that Niki Lauda was so obsessive.

Brilliant film, really enjoyed my second viewing last night smile

Bruhl as Lauda is superb and Hemsworth is good as Hunt.

Jurassic World. Completely enthralling escapism, though not as good as the first. Although in keeping with value measures on here for only average movies I'll give it 9/10.

For true scale though I'd give Jurassic Park 12/10.

I enjoyed it immensely the first few times I watched it again but now I started seeing oulton park every corner, the budget and how hard it is to recapture the racing.

Still a cracking film

Not only that but the one 6 wheeled AMG that does appear once or twice does not get the appropriate rallying it deserves.

Other than that having seen it at the Waterloo imax I can say it is incredibly and painfully loud, quite entertaining and a little exhausting. I'll overlook the tacky cliche moments and the fact that some batteries last better than others.
6/10

The Connection.
Just watched at my local indie with a glass of wine. A very good film indeed.
8/10

The Gunman with Sean Penn and a few other well known actors.

Felt a bit muddled if I'm honest. Script was clichéd everywhere. Action was well done. Mystery was lacking and script/scenes telegraphed well in advance.

Enjoyable enough but not one for a repeat viewing.

Blackhat with Christopher Hemsworth again. Realistic and genuine film based around hacking directed by Michael Mann. Thought it a little slow in places and the end felt a little muddled and it seemed to lose all sense at times too. Not bad but hardly a great. 6/10.
