Wreck it Ralph - excellent film, loads of old game references and a solid story

The emperors new groove - didn't expect to enjoy it but there's something about talking llamas which just tickles me

I watched Star Wars, A New Hope, Episode IV (or whatever it is called these days) with my 6 year old son. His first viewing. We are watching them in the order they were released (although we may never watch 1 to 3).

I wasn't disappointed with it, it is a great film, but I felt a little annoyed because it is no longer the Star Wars I was brought up with. Obviously my son doesn't know some scenes are "new" or supposedly "improved". I couldn't help feeling they didn't really add anything, more like tinkering for the sake of it.

I'm tempted to see if I can find the original version on DVD somehow, but suspect they'll be appreciating as the 40th anniversary approaches. I wonder if they'll re-release the original unaltered version though?

Anyway, enough rambling, 9.5/10. Loses half a point because of the CGI bits they added.

The Empire Strikes Back next weekend. Don't think they messed with it, did they?

This is a widely held view, much of what was added just makes some scenes look messier without adding to the film.

There was a box set released a few years ago with the originals and the updated versions (on BlueRay IIRC) it was stated at the time that this was the last chance to get the originals since they wouldn't be released again, but who knows. The original 3 were all updated for cinema release back in the 2000's.

I still think A New Hope is probably the best out of the six films so far.

You need to the set in the link its the one I have, it comes in a metal tin and has the original untouched versions and the later messed about with version of each film

They Live

Feat the late Roddy Piper

good for a 80s action flick, shows the hero is not a super human and is just a vulnerable as anyone else to injury.

Very Orwellian dystopian in places.

The Adjustment Bureau

6.5 / 10

Had far more potential, could have been a really really good film.

Enjoyed it though but felt disappointed.

The Dark Knight Rises

I think this film series must be one of the most overrated of all time. It's ok, but it's not the great cinematic masterpiece that loads of people seem to make it out to be. I think it's probably the Heath Ledger effect, he did a great performance in TDK, properly unhinged but would we still be talking about it if he was still alive?
Anyway TKR. It had a plot that made little sense and the pacing was all over the place. Bain had a comedy voice which didn't work for me once we had found his background out. Also I recall this performance was praised but it could have been anyone. Batman still mumbles.
How did the police not get massacred?
Catwoman was lovely.
5/10
Disappointed

Just flicking around on saturday night and came across Ill Manors on BBC, gritty violent drama about drug dealers and prostitutes in London. Worth a watch.

yes They LIve is a classic. I love Carpenter films.

I hope that Disney release the orignal Star Wars films (unfked about with) for the anniversary.

Watched 'The Place Beyond the Pines' at the weekend. Really liked it as a whole, not your normal film or format but overall really good and worth a watch.

Begin Again

Maybe it was because of my massive Sunday hangover, but although this was a bit too feel good and cheesy in parts, and I hate James Cordon, and didn't like the music that much...

..But I really enjoyed this. hehe

Love the first part of this film , then loses all its steam IMO. Could have been an iconic film , but just fell short.

Just watched Rocky 4,again.

Has there been a film made with a better soundtrack?

Every piece of music throughout fits absolutely perfect.

+1, one of my favourite films

As for films with great soundtracks, how about:
1. Either of the Bill & Ted films
2. Guardians Of The Galaxy
3. Jackie Brown (+ a few other Tarantinos)
4. Blues Brothers
