Good stuff - it's a brilliant film.

First film that Zeppelin allowed tracks for IIRC as they knew Cameron Crowe personally.

I will always cherish this film as it hits close to home for me.

I know, not sure why everyone is getting so hyped up about it and totally agree about it being 20 minutes too long. I found myself checking my watch, which is never a good sign. 6/10 didn't feel quite right though for some reason...
it did seem long, but I enjoyed it - it is not taxing but the stunts were good, the plot didn't over-complicate things and the action was excellent, a 7/10 for me

the nod to Bond in the car park made me smile too

Watched ex machina this morning as missed it in cinema thought it was pretty decent but only 6/10. Interesting concept and something to think about..
Other one was The ATeam! Really cracking action flick and some funny bits. Strong 8/10 on action flick scale

I just saw Southpaw. An excellent film; a proper rollercoaster of emotion, including my heart pounding with tension during 'the' fight and subtly wiping my eyes before I left the theatre. 9/10.

The Gift

Don't watch a trailer.

A psychological thriller written, directed and starring Joel Edgerton, also starring Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall.

Wow, wow, wow! Fantastic film - finally an opportunity for Jason Bateman to show us all that he can act!
Great performances from all 3 main characters, a simple but compelling plot that really makes you think!
Very slow paced, so not for those with short attention spans!

Probably my favourite film this year (so far)!

An easy 9/10

Last Orders

On the box last night. Distinguished British cast - Michael Caine, Helen Mirren, Bob Hoskins, Tom Courtenay, Ray Winstone and David Hemmings. On the surface, a simple plot - leisurely, sad and reflective, but it drew me in.

Southpaw

Jake G is choosing his roles nicely, excellently portrayed. Great film, a cross between Rocky and The Champ...

Had two small complaints though!!!.... But dont want to spoil it for others, and dont know how to do the SPOILER tag confused.....grrrrr...

But... a simple fact in the film....He is a world champ, a few times over, he is 43-0... so surely he knows what he is doing inside and outside the ring...??????

Gone Girl 3/10

Is this just really over hyped? The acting was poor, embarrassing at times and I had this feeling that I was just watching actors obviously act rather than a story I could become emotionally invested in.

Tyson. Impressive record, world champ, world at his feet. Then got rapey outside the ring and bitey inside the ring. Over.

In the film, before getting trained by Forest Whitaker, he was showy, taunting and got hit a lot, but he knew he could hurt the other guy more, FW took him back to basics and REtrained him his way, with the defence etc.

The acting was a little suspect at times but I liked it. It was more the ability of someone to do that, set-up a story and frame someone. Also reminds you that if you have a wife/gf make sure you dont play away from home. eek

I watched Breakfast Club last night. Never seen it before, got a bit bored at times but liked the premise at the end and how it all came together. My missus hated it, but she hates all films before 1990.

That high a score? I had to reach for FF, it was terrible, lame premise, and an even weaker story.

Personally, I would give it a 2/10.

Brilliant film, even though you sort of know the format, it's not exactly predictable, solid 8/10 for me.

On Netflix: Film length documentary about Aaron Swartz who frightened the life out of the US government and paid with his life.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3268458/

He was working with some folk on a computer programme and when they asked him to fly in so that the could discuss stuff face to face - he said he didn't think his mum would let him... he was only 13 and they had thought for over a year that he was an adult. hehe

8/10

I started a MUBI subscription at the weekend, the film that was going to go off the list lastnight was 'A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop' . I hadn't heard of it, it's a Chinese remake of the Coen brothers film, Blood Simple (which I haven't seen), but based in ancient China instead of Texas, and directed by Yimou Zhang, who directed 'House of Flying Daggers'. That was enough for me to give it a go. I thought it was pretty good, there were a few comedy side characters, and it was very, err, Chinese, if you have seen any before, you know what i mean. For me it worked though, especially the policeman character, (apparently played very differently to the policeman in the original Coen brothers film).

Can't imagine watching that now with fresh eyes, it's clearly of its time, I loved it when it was new and thus still have a huge soft spot for it. Can't imagine anything like it working now.

Watched Trainwreck - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3152624

It's a very straightforward clichéd story and essentially serves as a platform for Amy Schumer's stand-up material.

That said, I enjoyed it, genuinely quite funny, worth a punt.

7/10
