End Of Watch (2012) (Amazon Prime)
Two LA cops stumble across the business of a Mexican cartel.
The camcorder approach is distracting, but the film is powerful because of the completely natural lead performances from Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña, and the gritty and tense storytelling.
7/10
This is one of my favourite films of all time, from the opening sequence which is as shocking as it is compelling and sets it's stall out and NOT being a Lethal Weapon style film where the baddies just fall over and die and we all cheer, the tension builds and builds towards a pretty tough ending - but other side of it is the friendship between the two main characters isn't some Hollywood cheesy nonsense, even though I'm not a Cop and I'm not American it was very relatable to me - it's basically two mates sat in a car taking the piss out of each other. Two LA cops stumble across the business of a Mexican cartel.

It really deserves more recognition than it gets I think.

I watched Breakfast Club last night. Never seen it before, got a bit bored at times but liked the premise at the end and how it all came together. My missus hated it, but she hates all films before 1990.
Can't imagine watching that now with fresh eyes, it's clearly of its time, I loved it when it was new and thus still have a huge soft spot for it. Can't imagine anything like it working now.Korean War film Bridges at Toko RI.
Interesting film not quite the war film I imagined it would be.
It is obviously what an American war film with a message about sacrifice etc has the usual aspects but it's much deeper. Really enjoyed it, didn't expect the ending, but it was obviously the point of it, they die so you have freedom etc.

Watched ex machina this morning as missed it in cinema thought it was pretty decent but only 6/10. Interesting concept and something to think about..
That high a score? I had to reach for FF, it was terrible, lame premise, and an even weaker story.Personally, I would give it a 2/10.
Also watched Mission Impossible, couldn't get the Mrs to come and don't think she missed out tbh kind of agree it's possibly one of the weakest ones - seemed too long with nothing really standing out in the film, ok action-romp but probably not worth the ticket price. -Frankly I enjoyed the ATeam a lot more.

On Netflix: Film length documentary about Aaron Swartz who frightened the life out of the US government and paid with his life.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3268458/
He was working with some folk on a computer programme and when they asked him to fly in so that the could discuss stuff face to face - he said he didn't think his mum would let him... he was only 13 and they had thought for over a year that he was an adult.

Poor boy was hounded to death.
Pitch Perfect 2 - 3/10, I actually enjoyed the first one, I dunno why I hate things like that normally but it was rather well put together even if it was totally predictable. This one was utter ste, the constant presence of "fat Amy" got right on my tits, she's fking horrible. Who actually finds her "comedy" funny.

My missus loves Pitch Perfect and i quite enjoyed it. Elizabeth Banks & John Michael Higgins are very funny. Not seen number 2 but the other half says its a bit boring and not a patch on the first one. Asterix said:
I'd guess so - I doubt I missed any of them at the time. Good shout for 'Risky Business' as well - I was always torn as to what I'd buy first, a Porsche or a Call Girl...
RB is one of my most favourite films, Rebecca De Mornay, a Porsche 928 and Tangerine Dream all in a single movie. Brilliant.Revisiting 'Dazed and Confused' for the umpteenth time. Love that film. Whilst I didn't go to high school in 70s USA, and I was not particularly cool, it does nonetheless remind me a lot of my teenage years.
Love this quote from writer/director:
Linklater described his intent to create an inverse John Hughes film: "The drama is so low-key in [Dazed & Confused]. I don’t remember teenage being that dramatic. I remember just trying to go with the flow, socialize, fit in and be cool. The stakes were really low. To get Aerosmith tickets or not? That’s a big thing. It was really rare when the star-crossed lovers from the opposite side of the tracks and the girl gets pregnant and there’s a car crash and somebody dies. That didn’t really happen much. But riding around and trying to look for something to do with the music cranked up, now that happened a lot!"

Pain and Gain
It's not a classic but it has it's moments. Typical Bay slow-mo sequences and iffy direction. The stand out is The Rock. Who knew he could actually act? A proper funny and sometimes quietly deep performance. Without him the film would have been considerably poorer.

The Empire Strikes Back next weekend. Don't think they messed with it, did they?
Yeah, he attempted a decent fk up of that too, not as much, but he still meddled with stty new dialogue.qube_TA said:

The Gift
The creepy guy in this, who also starred opposite Tom Gardy in Warrior, and in Zero Dark Thirty amongst others also wrote and directed this?!
It's pretty good too. It either builds tension slowly or is just painfully slow depending on your view, for the 1st half or more, but the story unfolds well and has you questioning who the bad guy really is and then creeps you out big style later... So I started off sleepy and ended up engrossed.
Old school friends bump into eachother and dark secrets surface from those days, whilst the wife slowly unravels in the background...
Probably a good DVD over current cinema ticke price watch, but the Meerkats made this doable. Thankyou Sergey.
I'm going with 7.3/10

finallay managed to watch spring breakers..... safe to say this was not a disney film. I am unsure about how to feel about it, basically 4 friends go to spring break and realise they're not as party hard as they thought they were, in between sex nudity and drugs. took me like a year to watch it though, kept getting distracted

I saw this expecting a fast paced action/drama film, however I found it to be slow and dull. The entire film I felt to be pretentious and too long in length. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
