Loved the car but they probably could have kept the original engine and wheels.
From the sound of it, based on what the earlier owner said, he had been building the car to FIA regs as a historic touring car. I thought it was a bit of a shame they stuck those great big wheels and brakes on the Falcon. It's neither fish nor fowl now.

I really enjoy the show, but I can't help but prefer it when it wasn't so commercial, and was a bit 'rougher'. It just felt more honest and genuine. They long list of product placement items on the Falcon is an example of this - I'm guessing they got the wheels, brakes etc cheaper on exchange for a feature on the show, and it's just a bit obvious.

Clearly have Wilwood on board as a sponsor, like the Foos cars all have Baer, inevitable really, as dick loves cash.

I'm not 100% sure it is obvious product placement as such. Maybe Aaron just prefers Wilwood over the other options as they certainly make a lot of useful stuff for custom fitting etc.

That being said even if it is product placement I couldn't care as I like the fact the show goes into some of the details about what they're using, it must be difficult for them to decide what to include and what not to.

Theoretically if it's true product placement their should be a 'P' marker shown at the start of each segment.

Anyway, loved that Car, despite the beard I spotted a little rye smile on A-Ron's face as he drove it back to GMG, I knew he wanted it.

As for self-promotion, only one mention of Gas Monkey BarNgrill last night!! Richard must be slipping!

Could be a wilwood re-seller? seen their calipers on several builds.

Love the show, especially the earlier stuff.

Well, I don't know much about muscle cars, but I know what I like and I'd definitely have a Boss 429 in my dream car collection, pity for Richard it tanked at the auction. A decent episode like last weeks, but it could have done without the Chainsaw Massacre pastiche.

From watching quite a few American car series - Chasing Classic Cars, Wrecks to riches etc, it does seem that the chosen method of re-sale is normally an auction but I just don't understand it.

I'd always expect something to reach a lower price at auction, maybe it's different in the states?

RR always seems keen to rush builds in order to get them to auction, hypes up the price then winces as they go through at a fraction of his estimate! Or maybe his estimates are just way out?!

I know some artistic licence is put into the show but surely they'd make more money by putting the feelers out through their networks and selling privately?

Is anybody else watching season 5 from the US? His mate Dennis seems to feature a lot in these episodes. In last weeks episode they tarted up a 2006 jeep wrangler (for the same guy they did the bronco for - some restaurant owner) and where did they get all the parts they needed for it? From Dennis's jeep parts store. All they did to the car was bolt on a bunch of after-market off roading accessories. It was the worst episode so far and agree that the whole show is getting a bit too commercial these days. RR also employed his nephew in this episode. It is all getting a bit too american chopper now. I fear that they are about to jump the shark.

I think Dennis is aiming for his own show, I personally think he is an annoying twit and doesn't bring anything positive to the show, but he IS Richards best mate so its obvious he is helping him appear, I am also getting annoyed with the silly little parody's of things they keep doing, it is beginning to grate.

I think what you have to remember is that these shows are often driven by the producer and production team, who will try and introduce new things to keep the format fresh, I think the show has peaked and is in decline, I will still watch it (and wear the gmg t shirt!) as it is still the best car related show on discovery at present.

+1 on the American Chopper aspect. I wonder how long it will be before Aaron parts company to set up his own 'shop'? But, as has been stated a million times before it's a populist TV show first, dedicated car show second.

The show does seem to be going the Discovery formatted way.
I enjoyed Outlaw Garage, with Jessy James, but it seems he wouldn’t toe the line and the show was cancelled.

Another thing - Do US viewers have attention-span issues? This is the only logical reason I have for the recaps which must fill 20% of the shows' air time! (That goes for Wheeler Dealers, too)

They might do this and just not show it on TV, but doing work to a customer's specification a la Chip Foose etc might be a better bet than doing work on a speculative basis and then lobbing the car into auction only to make a loss or a smaller than expected profit.

I don't believe anyone watches these programmes in real time, the recaps would drive you insane. There's probably about 30-35 mins real content in a 60 minute show.

Or reddit someone? used to do this with mythbusters, basically edit the show to produce one with: no-adverts, no recap etc.. It was about 20 in the end. I wish more people would do this with other shows.

edit found it: http://www.reddit.com/r/smyths

I suspect it'll be Tom and Jordan who end up with a spin-off, I know they've been 'fired' from GMG, allegedly for becoming to popular - in some episodes they do as much, if not more bits to camera than RR and RK - you can see the build up coming in the UK episodes.

I still love the programme, but I think it's in it's middle 'peaks and troughs' stage, some great episodes, some are pure filler, sadly now IMO the show it too big to continue to be reality show, even by the standards of US 'reality'. It's a pity because I love it, but the scripted drama is only moments away.

Mainly, it's a nice way to slash the production costs - paying editors to sit rehashing and summarizing the same crap every few minutes costs beans compared to the costs of getting sufficient original footage, and the higher-ups believe their viewers are by and large too stupid to spot it, or don't care when they do - the 'Shut up and eat your Doritos, fatty' approach.

Another factor is yanks are fiends for channel hopping apparently. Advertisers and networks both have chunky lumps of cash invested so god forbid the punters don't see the snap-on tools, can of red bull or whatever.
Also there's the fact US TV is geared around the principle of delivering 10 minutes worth of ads for every 10 seconds of TV at the most inconvenient moments, with ads sufficiently shouty and awful that your brain cells attempt a mass suicide - so the recaps almost serve a purpose.
