Should have used an ice cream truck, you know they've got to get there before it melts.

Im pretty sure some old UK cars dont have seat belts and are still legal to drive.
I'm pretty sure too. Very few laws in the UK are retrospective. If a car didn't have seatbelts when it was sold new then they do not have to be retro-fitted. That applies for both front and rear seats.

Having said that, I remember as a kid that when my dad used to buy a car that didn't have seatbelts for every passenger, the first thing he would do would be to fit them.
You can drive veteran cars without seat belts. In fact the only thing you check for the mot are the tyres.

I had a 1962 Ford Zephyr 6 that, with bench seats and column gear change, could seat six and not a seat belt in sight.

Just watching the 2nd part of the Camera SS Convertible build.

Anyone else thinking the deadline was contrived to a point beyond incredulity?
Yeah it's a bit silly really, same goes for the 'deal' Drive-though guy says "I'll give you $150k to build it, 50% up front, if it's a day late you can forget about it".

On the face of it, it's bonkers - they could have

1) taken the $75k and done nothing, literally sat on their arse - "sorry, we missed the deadline" I guess you keep your $75k and moonwalked off into the distance with $75k for doing nothing.

2) taken the $75k, built the car a day late and sold it elsewhere and kept the $75k

Moral issues aside the WORST thing they could have done was actually sell the car to the guy.

Still, it's still brilliant - I have to assume the home market like a bit of fake drama, at least they don't slam doors or otherwise act like toddlers.

I think the show has peaked for me, the last episode where the 2 guys he fired and his rival set up shop in his old GMG property is completely BS, no doubt they'll be challenging them to a buildoff or something soon.
I'm sad to see it going this way, it is a great show, or rather was until the producers started dicking around with it. frown
me too....its all getting a bit american chopper these days.

It actually hasn't changed that much at all, some expect too much from reality television.

Yup agree with the above.

If anything, its got less stupid from the early days.

In the early series they kept building custom cars and then auctioning them off to normal car buyers..

hehe

That's the thing about 'reality TV shows' - they are more often than not as far removed from reality as you could possibly go!

All of these reality shows suffer from a sort of Quantum Theory of Observation .

At least F n' L actually accepts that it's made the Garage and the major players famous, far too many others are Series 4 in and still trying to maintain that the major players are still in some desperate struggle for financial survival despite the $100k a episode appearance fees and the queues around the block to buy their goods thanks to TV.

They all have a shelf life, only so long before it disappears up it's own arse - FnL's biggest risk is Discovery turning a 12 episode series in to a 24 episode series with all the filler episodes.

$100K is that for them to split or per person? or only a couple of them get that?

There's no official figures published, but if a reality show goes big the main players can negotiate 'appearance fees' based on viewing figures - which can be pretty massive - they might be fringe TV in the UK tucked away up the 500's on Sky, but in the US it's pretty much mainstream - more than that they get good viewing figures in the best / toughest categories - young to middle aged men so it's big business.

The fees are also based on popularity rather than 'status' so on FnL I wouldn't be surprised if Aaron got paid more than RR for example - it's also been claimed that's why Tom and Jordan got the bullet - they're very popular with the audience so Discovery pretty much gave them a 'show within a show' a 15 min section in the middle when they did their bits to camera and usually got some old st box running - it seems they're also being written back into it with another garage.

Anyway as for actual money example the guys from Pawn Stars get $25k an episode, which is a bloody lot considering they have that weird format of doing 2 half-hour episodes a week, rather than a single 1 hour episodes and it runs 30ish weeks of the year - they made over 300 episodes of Pawn Stars!! even if they were getting a few grand an episode at the start you have to assume they're doing 'okay' from it.
