It's still reasonably honest, for a reality show, the loses are shown as well as the wins, not ashamed to embarrass themselves to entertain the audience.
Rawlings makes the show, like Clarkson, a big personality who is not as dumb as he appears.

It's certainly evolved over the years, and 'the brand' really is taking over a lot of screen time - RRR must have one over Discovery by the way he's allowed to promote himself and his various interests so much - even AK is being pushed into the background.

It's certainly no longer a 'reality show' and without sounding like a pre-punch Top Gear be moaner it's all scripted - AK in the hot tub, RRR throwing away the wine to pour beer in the glass etc. - it was planned, scripted, set-up, lit and filmed.

I still really enjoy it, but not nearly as much as I used too, it's not as funny or light-hearted as it used to be, and I think the inevitable shark-jump is coming, maybe the fight over the Harley was the beginning of the end.

What did he pay for it? Something beginning with the $3, I think?

Seems like he's feeling the pressure a bit. I know he's worth a few quid but between the shop, bar and music venue; he must have have fair old line of credit.

Still, they do seem to make money on average (as far as we're shown) on the cars but who knows how much gets spent.

I thought that Pantera was veeeeeery expensive!

I expect his deal with discovery is worth a fair chunk of cash. Agree with many of the thoughts here that it has lost it's way and seems much more scripted now. I enjoyed watching AK on Pikes Peak and the guys building the bikes more than I did RR in recent episodes, Dennis was right, even getting selected for Pebble Beach is an acheivement in itself.

I still like the show, for me it's the other cars in the workshop that interest me & these I suspect are where the money is made I'd guess the build cars are loss leaders to a certain extent.

They're also sponsored by Dodge hence no more F150 & the Hellcat Challenge those other guys are sponsored by Dodge to, so it's safe to say he's not short of a penny or two.

Yeah - I also think Dennis cringes at some of his antics. Someone had possibly had a word about the fact he was sitting on his car, drinking beers, during the Pebble Beach judging...

It's still my favourite show and I watch it every morning (while I'm off at the moment) but I find the builds more interesting than the self-promotion. Still, I am pretty sure RR would say he was living the dream so all power to him!

As mentioned previously on this thread - read (or listen to for free) the book - it's pretty honest and explains how things work and why he is as he is.

I can't fault the guy - he tried for a long time to get a show on Discovery - he knows exactly what he is doing.

Seen B#tch'in Rides?

Focuses more on the builds and fabrication side of things, at present anyway.

when you have seen one build with air ride lowering V8 crate engines you have seen them all. I like all the characters in this and it is so good to have another show that is not PC. Some of the stuff is cringe worthy like the Ferrari rebuild improving on the History of Ferrari or pulling apart a Rolls Royce's engineering that was probably 25 years old.

I've been watching that of late. Right up my street, just quietly and competently getting on with building cars. Other than the shop foreman who is a bit of a dick, but regardless, they seem to build high quality stuff.

I tried bhin rides, but it left me a little cold, the cars are nice and neatly made, but lack a certain something, maybe it's the shaving of handles and trim, always leaves them looking odd. And the characters are lacking... Character.

That's what always got me about the Misfits spin-off from Fast n Loud. It just seemed to have very little character, and what character there was consisted of Tom being a bit of a twunt. I stopped watching it quite quickly.

I agree, and those modern wheels and tyres just don't suit it ether.

It looks to be a lot bigger establishment from what I saw and are they not taking top cars and making them better rather than buying cheap, doing up cheap and selling as fast as possible ?

A car that is a little rough around the edges, not polished to within an inch of its life appeals more to me.
