It was a true classic as you say.
Mark clearly has no idea of life in the real world. As in 'what do gay people eat???' Comedy gold.
Offensive if most people said that however it's impossible to find it offensive simply because Mark is clueless.
He tries hard, fails most times, yet he always has a smile on his face & goes ahead with hs next mad-cap scheme.

Last episode was classic as Mark hosts gay pride at his new job / hotel and 30 people turn up as he persuaded Alex rued to drive 6 hours to the hotel - catch it !
It was brilliant. Loved the way he thought that 1 Direction would turn up at the Cavendish hotel for a 30 person Pride party. There are so many things that could be done to that hotel, even a lick of paint in all the rooms and it would't cost a lot. I do feel sorry for the owners who could go bust quite easily but there are jobs I am crap at so I keep clear of them. Maybe they should do the same. The buildings got to be worth quite a bit.

Mark used to be a customer of ours when they were doing the first couple of series of the Hotel @ The Grosvenor.
He was just chaos, in a funny way though.
I love watching him, although i don't doubt a lot of it is scripted & if you watch closesly, well edited together, but, he is genuinely hilarious to watch on TV.

I think he's great. But what gets me is the owners of the hotel he's working at, they could not care less about their hotel but they are quick enough to blame him for everything whilst doing nothing themselves to save their failing business that's stuck in a timewarp. And the chef (the microwave jockey) is even worse.
1It feels like it's staged for Mark to fail.
Last week, the gay pride thing, why didn't the event organisers arrange for publicity? Why was that Marks responsibility?
This week, a wrestling match. At no point did any of these 'professional' wrestlers say "you've got your wrestling license, right?"
And that sounds bullst anyway, do you really need a license to put on a boxing night or wrestling night? I know people who do these sort of events and I doubt very much they have a license from the council.
Edit: looking at the councils website it seems he'd need a Premises License;
Provision of regulated entertainment - which includes:
•the performance of a play
•an exhibition of a film
•an indoor sporting event
•a boxing or wrestling entertainment
•a performance of live music
•any playing of recorded music
•a performance of dance, and
•the provision of facilities for making music or for dancing.
Do they not already have this? They must have for the other entertainment nights, such as those 'playing recorded music' (ie, the 70s night)

I agree that it's staged but it's still good entertainment. Mark just comes across as a likeable guy and I would like to see more of him on TV.Last week, the gay pride thing, why didn't the event organisers arrange for publicity? Why was that Marks responsibility?

In terms of the licence, I'm a councillor (in Scotland so not directly relevant) and when a business applies for a premises licence they have a series of tick boxes with various activities (i.e. live music etc). They probably never thought they would be hosting a boxing match when they applied so didn't tick the box.

So literally a "tick in the box exercise"?Beaurcracy makes me weep
