What's different?
All of it basically. Sweden is covered in forests 53% of 450.000 Sq.km, so it's alot. Norway is heavy forested aswell 33% and very mountainous, Ireland is very green with flowing hills and not as much forests. But I know, it's just being petty.

They don't sound too different
ETA although Hapthor is Icelandic I think they had a Viking link too?
Icelandic is very un-like Swedish, and Nowegian and Danish, although it's the same language family. Apparently very much still like old Norse. I can understand Norwegian pretty easilly, and Danish if they speak slowly enough Icelandic? Not so much, nothing infact, might aswell be Martian. Although it's easier to read it and understand the context atleast. They don't sound too different

From Wiki: Historically, it was the westernmost of the Indo-European languages prior to the colonisation of the Americas. Icelandic, Faroese, Norn, and Western Norwegian formerly constituted West Nordic; Danish, Eastern Norwegian and Swedish constituted East Nordic. Modern Norwegian Bokmål is influenced by both groups, leading the Nordic languages to be divided into mainland Scandinavian languages and Insular Nordic (including Icelandic).
Great show been a lot of filler though this season IMO, just been waiting for them to return to Paris.
As a bit of a history buff I've read into the lore and fact around the characters, and it's fairly accurate with a bit of artistic license. I believe the scene from the end of last series was something Bjorn did all be it in another country/city.
It's mostly filmed in Ireland. The location used/CGI I assumed for Kattegat was in Norway as it looked Norwegian. I'm confused if Ragnar is meant to be Swedish or Danish as Kattegat is present day Denmark.

After seeing this thread I thought I'd try it out on Prime.
I can't remember watching a show that I was so completely happy to binge upon binge on - apart, funnily enough, as Man in the High Castle (also Amazon). My only gripe is how incompetent the English are at war - is this realistic?
The one where the English get a 'good' general in to command his troops, but then they all get clobbered when they are sleeping at night with no guards and the commander bloke wastes most of his time saying a prayer before getting caught in his tent...
Anyway, I'm currently about half way through S2 and really enjoying it.

I think that the religious fanaticism at this time cannot be overstated. What seems crazy to us, now, was completely the norm back then. With that in mind, I can believe that some would finish their prayers, no matter what. To their minds, it could be worse if they didn't.I can't remember watching a show that I was so completely happy to binge upon binge on - apart, funnily enough, as Man in the High Castle (also Amazon). Only managed season one, and despite the show being filled with good actors, good acting and a good general plot I couldn't get over the fake Scandinavian accents, which I find utterly pointless and the fact that the surroundings albeit beautiful is NOT Scandinavia, I know it isn't because I live there Remember watching the first episodes thinking to myself...thats not in Sweden, nor Nowyay and especially not Denmark. Ireland maybe? Correct in my assumption i was apparently
I might give it another try.
Edit: I am aware that the whole story is not taking place in the Scandinavian countries but in England and probably a few other places aswell, it's just the Scandinavian nature depicted is all wrong. Maybe being petty here, I know
Hate to break it to you chap, but Star Wars wasnt actually filmed on Totooine I might give it another try.

I thought this myself. The Vikings strength was their speed, able to attack loot and pillage and be back on the boat before meeting much resistance. I believe the word Viking means 'raider'. They liked to hit monasteries mostly in the beginning which weren't protected as no self respecting Christian would ever dream of attacking them.I can't remember watching a show that I was so completely happy to binge upon binge on - apart, funnily enough, as Man in the High Castle (also Amazon). Back then the the land that became England was made up of several kingdoms and power was either too centralised or not enough. The Viking's undoing was conquering rather than raiding. The great Heathen Army was effectively an un co-ordinated invasion by several armies but encouraged the rulers of the English kingdoms to reform. Armies back then needed to be raised to meet a threat which took time, this failed to counter the hit and run tactics of the Vikings. Alfred the Great created a standing army, navy, and fortified towns with the population, farmers etc never more than a few miles away so they could take refuge.
They also lived for war, although I believe their weapons were poorer quality they loved fighting and were probably bigger and stronger than the Anglo-Saxons.

Bingewatch: done!
Really enjoyed that, wasn't what I was expecting at all really, there's a lot more depth. The only downside is some of the dodgy accents going on (Frenchy princess being the main culprit)

Glad you enjoyed it though, it's a great series. Already renewed for S5 as well.

It's awful though, right?!
However none of my friends out there sounded French when they spoke English. They usually struggled to sound feminine and put on a serious masculine voice (imagine a stunning petite 5ft woman sounding like a 20stone prop)
