Not forgetting Superdog, able to leap to safety through an intense fireball strong enough to blow cars away.

That is a film classic.....Americans just can't kill dogs in films.

I'm looking forward to this, just a sit back and chill film. I liked the first one, this will need to be something special to be anywhere near as good though. Definitely a night out for me and the Mrs.

I love the fact it's being released on the 23rd June in the UK, could be very insight, or just ironic.

The spoiler to the plot I posted before is 100% accurate, I've ready the book of the movie.

I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. I like the idea of the introduction of the other Alien species that tries to help but the Earth blow em up thinking they're the evil Aliens and I like that the end is opened up for an Aliens style movie where they take the fight to space to go hunt down the bad aliens, (incidentally the floating ball that Okun is looking at IS the Alien that the bad Aliens fear so much!
Yes, its gonna be a cheesy movie, but this is a movie for kids, just sit back and enjoy the special effects!

I liked the first one and am really looking forward to this. Sometimes I want a fine fillet steak, cooked to perfection and sometimes I just want a 5 Guys American hamburger with everything on it, this is the latter.

People expecting Oscar worthy fair are in the wrong thread, not sure why people who obviously aren't fans come onto a thread to state how st the first one was and how st this one is going to be. rolleyes

I'll be sitting down in the theatre on the 23rd with my Popcorn, looking forward to a night of aliens blowing the crap out of things, corny speeches and Goldblum hamming it up like only he can and if someone gets to punch an alien again, that will be the icing on the cake.

Yep, same here, i remember going to see ID4 with my next door neighbour's dad in the local Odean (now sadly closed) and it was ace, i was 14.

This looks like a lot of fun and in the same vein as the warcraft movie.

If i'm redundant in a week, ill have some free time to go enjoy it of an afternoon.

Does this look 'oscar worthy'? No, of course not. Does it look intelligent? No, of course not. Does it look fun 'n' splodey 'n' stuff? Why yes, yes it does. Brain in a bucket pop-corn movie, pretty much does what it says on the tin. It doesn't try and be something it is not, it's plain good old fashioned dumb fun - & I'll be enjoying it

I wouldn't have expected an Oscar winner, but something other than MORE! aliens and BIGGER! aliens would've been good.

This one just looks like they had a script/budget meeting, had nothing for the script so decided to throw the whole budget at the CGI.

CGI is cool but when used in moderation. From what I've seen of this so far, it looks ridiculous.

It's the cinematic equivalent of the car Homer designed.

Watched the remastered extended cut of the original on Blu Ray last night in preparation for going to see Independence Day 2 next weekend.

I can thoroughly recommend the new Blu Ray, by far the best I've seen Independence Day, the transfer is superb, other than a few dodgy matte shots, the effects look fantastic, you wouldn't believe this film is 20 years old and at £7 for a 2 disk set, an utter bargain.

funny thing is I watched 5 minutes or so (round about where the Whitehouse gets blown-up) last night and while some of the explosions still looked impressive a great deal of it looked a little shonky

Don't know which version you watched, I can only compare to the original Blu Ray release and the difference is night and day with the remastered Blu Ray. The original Blu Ray looks poor and many of the sfx look very shonky, the new version looks so much better I could have believed the sfx had been re-shot ala Star Wars re-issues but from what I understand is that it's just a new transfer.

ID1 was massively offensive, the whole subtext of that film was that Americans are not only wonderful, everyone actually wants to be one, they're there to save the day and the world would be fked without them. No other nation could make such a conceited film.
Allow me to make these quick points/opinion.

1. The sequel will suck. It is my experience that having millions of dollars at your disposal and extremely talented film makers and crew mean fk all when making a "studio" film. It is my opinion that any movie worth watching will never see the big screen, take Black Sea with Jude Law as a recent example. Brilliant film.

2. Smiths son was good in Pursuit of Happiness IMO but i also hold some odd and inexplicable annoyance towards him, and after recently having read some interviews to find that Will Smith is your typical liberal minded woe is the black actor BS i refuse to give him my noney.

3. AS FOR THE AMERICA SAVES THE DAY comment which i have read so much on this forum the content of movies where its focused on American pride i wanted to make sure everyone reads this; while i agree, dont forget that Hollywood is in fact located in America and so really its par for course wouldn't you agree? I mean lets face it, if Hollywood was in Great Britain I am pretty sure the focus would be on GB pride. It wouldn't make much sense or have the same appeal to have say, Germany come to the rescue... although, sadly i predict one more generation American pride will be vanquished by the spiteful hatred of the scum liberals who seem to be breeding at a faster rate than ever here in the U.S..

4. Your comment about JG's character being able to load a virus into the main frame of yhe alien ship is spot on, it is really ridiculous and i agree wholeheartedly smile
