Independence Day 2
Discussion
I usually go into films with a fairly open mind, but the absolute pointlessness of so many of the characters is probably what annoyed me most about this. It seems like they offered a heap of roles without anything for them to actually do.
Jeff Goldblums Dad? There was no point in him being in it.
Relatives of pilots, schoolkids with dog, really annoying sidekick pilot, really annoying guy lumped with the warlord? All added absolutely nothing to the story.
They somehow also managed to suck any drama whatsoever out of what should have been dramatic sections of the film. The spaceship dashboards must have had cue cards with "vaguely worried yell" plastered all over them.
Jar Jar Binks was a much better developed character than the majority of those in here!

Good Popcorn movie but it failed to build up any suspense, predominantly because the film felt like it was trying to move things along too quick, there seemed very little time to react to what just happened before something else happened. The book is orders of magnitude better which features the Saturn base getting destroyed and goes into the hopelessness of the crews there that knows they're doomed, especially when combined with crucible before hand which sets the back story up nicely.
