When I heard he was going to write for Dr Who I was initially very excited because I loved what he had done with the early programs for Sherlock.
Did I hear a parrot fly over just then, or am I missing something?

Moffat wrote some of the very best new Dr Who scripts, long before he was railroaded into the Sherlock gig. His fall in form coincided with him becoming series producer and the increased workload with Sherlock.

So far, of all the people I have talked to, the "hate it" camp seems to be almost wholly populated by the diehard fans. The ones who hang on every leaked word and photo. The same ones who didn't really like Matt Smith at the time, but over the course of a few months seem to have totally changed their minds and now love him. The ones who really liked it are the ones who just go with the flow, don't care about the scale of dinosaurs, and just treat it as entertainment.

For my part, I thought there was too much deus ex machina, the dinosaur was wasted (unless we get to see a more dinosaury plot later) and there wasn't enough Dr, with River Song the lizard woman dominating screen time.

The dinosaur did get called a 'giant dinosaur' in the show a few times didn't it? So it wasn't a regular size T Rex, it was a giant T Rex. No explanation why it was bigger, but for now let's put it down to wibble wobbly timey wimey stuff wink

I'd like to have been at an imagined script read-through and see them try to get that line past TuckerWho.

I am not a diehard Who fan but the recent storylines are awful. They remind me of a franchise movie like say Madagascar, or Pirates of the Caribean. No proper flow, just stick a random series of events together. Last nights episode was just that. After all, its set in space and time so you can throw anything into the mix whenever you want - lazy script writing well demonstrated as of late.

I didnt think much of the new choice of doctor but in the end he turns out to be okay so no complaints there funny enough. But like Matt Smith he will have to suffer daft scripts.

It strikes me that they have gone for the completely wrong story mix. It was to post watershed for young viewers, and a childish cobbled together lazy storyline for older viewers. Well done beeb as you missed both audiences by a mile with that plan.

Some music fans may have spotted the Gary Numan inspired droid though. Top hat and victorian cyborg with black fluffed up hair. So obvious - but that was probably just me.

All in all Doctor Who has seriously lost it. Lazy, pc correct, franchise rubbish. And dont even get me started on how the beeb killed Torchwood by taking it stateside..

I wish they'd drop the whole dark and moody Victorian thing. Been far too much of it of late, as though the writers have just discovered steampunk or something and it's getting tiring. Also, Clara is still hugely annoying. Just can't warm to her at all. As for Strax and Vastra...they just feel like a spin-off series embedded in the main show who get wheeled out when there's a gap to fill.

No issue with Capaldi, who is clearly going to be far darker and moodier than recent Doctors. Will be interesting to see how they explain the seemingly throwaway line about him being 2000 years old. Assuming that's going to be developed.

Norwegian Blue?

I liked Matt. I liked Amy. I like David and Billy. i thougth 'Blink' was excellent. I have a flexible mind and my imagination is no slouch.

That was crap-plain and simple. Ypu can defend Moffet as much as you like but that 'plot' was chaotic rubbish and should never have got past a first review.
If he is overworked then he should make his mind up where to focus because at the moment he is doing himself and the franchise no favours at all.

The woman at the end - pretty clear its going to be the story arc, the reference to Clara getting the Doctors number from the woman in the shop is a neat reference much forgotten now as to how she first met the Doctor.
There is also the question of who placed the newspaper ad - clearly it was someone aware of Clara's history with the Doctor

The doc was around a 1000 when he spent around another 1000 years defending trenzalore, no?

As to the episode, I thought the first half was too chaotic and I didn't enjoy it, but the second half was great. I liked the interplay between the doctor and Clara, and I think it really showed a difference having someone who can really act in the role.

Looking forward to the rest of the series now.

But Victoriana is cheap to produce and easy to write.

Firstly it is good to have the Doctor and Clara cloud9 back on the screens. I thought the start of the episode was a bit naff, but it got better as it went on. A couple of points:

1)Who placed the newspaper ad? I thought the "see you on the otherside" was very smartly done.

2) Why is Clara having to come to grips with the Doctor's new face, like it is the first time she has been exposed to regeneration? As we learnt in the last episode, she has been guiding all the Doctors across time in the right direction, so the concept shouldn't be hard for her to adjust to.

I meant more that the layout of the garden was the same layout as the tardis control room.

The woman at the end reminded me of someone, couldn't put my finger on who until I read your comment. For some reason she seemed similar to the woman with the eye patch who held Amy at that facility.
