I enjoyed Kill the Moon, the Doctor isn't the warm cuddly one we had with Tennant and Smith, and that is a refreshing change, and I think that is what a lot of people want, a cuddly Doctor. He isn't the nicest guy and his friendship with Clara is taking a massive hit over it. He is almost taking her for granted, is he testing her for something to happen later? don't know, but imo Capaldi is playing him brilliantly, and Jenna has a stronger Clara to work with.

But, this weeks episode had one missing ingredient from others, a bit of hide behind the sofa because you're afraid. Yes, the spiders (or was that just my arachnophobia?) were a shock and scary moment, although, once seen from a distance, less frightening. Yes, there were plot holes bigger than a gravity well, but I was either being lazy or just enjoying the story that it didn't spoil it for me

i'm looking forward to next weeks episode

Dunno about a warm and cuddly one. I'd be quite happy for one that didn't act like he was schizophrenic or bi polar.

Clara had met and influenced all the previous incarnations so there was a connection with them. Capaldi's doctor has no such bond, except as a memory of past encounters. He may even blame her for the situation he's in - including the events surrounding the Time War. (just a theory based on past events).

I do wonder if the Dr is preparing her to take his place? Maybe related to the afterlife storyline?

I'm loving Capaldi as the Doctor

But he is being given the same treatment as Sylvester McCoy - great actor with st scripts, episode plots and scenery!

I haven't read all this thread so I don't know if this has come up before but does Steven Moffat have to always denigrate Soldiers/The Army/Military in every episode?

I know he appears to have seriously lefty leanings but it's starting to get embarrassingly obvious. The bank episode even had some of the security guards i(in an alien bank ffs) in British military combat gear to bludgeon home the political message to the viewers. Every soldier is seen as either evil or a buffoon and every ex soldier is portrayed as damaged in some way.

He is a talented bloke that is undeniable but I just wish he would leave the cheap shots out of the programme.
Agreed, it makes me wince and cringe whenever they try to portray soldiers or any type of military organisation. You's think that with the amount of ex-squaddies around the BBC could employ one to advise the actors how to salute, walk, talk, wear a beret, wear a uniform etc.

As for this series I'm enjoying Capaldi's random and dark humour, and how he doesn't run around like an overemotional and hyperactive child like the previous two doctors. I though the moon episode was ok but had to switch off when it came to clara's grisling and crying at the end. I realise that it's a kids show but seems pretty much like pantomime with special effects these days.

Agreed, although I thought the scenery in the moon episode was very well done. Having a lot of scenes set in the school must be saving a few quid though.

Total st, the script was awful, christ almighty, a 3 year old would have struggled not to laugh at it. So the moons breaking up in 20 years time with millions dying and they best the combined might of nations can come up with is a 40 year old space shuttle crewed by two senile old blokes and a bird.

This whole series has a whiff of death to it, its as if they are trying to kill it.

I have to say that the whole 'we're the last shuttle and Crew that humanity has' thing baffled the hell out of me.

We've seen the future many times and humans travelled far and wide into space.

And tbh I wanted to see that giant flying dragon space thingy more. They missed the boat there as that seemed like the most epic thing in the universe ever!!

The beret is the worst thing, worn like wind sock. As soon as you get it you make it sit right or you look like a tt.

I think he mentioned that they were inspired to explore space further because of what happened to the moon i.e. they'd given up at some point before 2049.

Filmed at El Cuervo volcano in Lanzarote. We were out there this summer and saw an article in a local magazine about it. The volcano is open to the public (on foot) so we went out to see it. Its like a mini volcano, with a crack in the side that you can walk through to get into the crater.

In some scenes you can see El Cuervo in the background, in others they are walking through the crack in the side, and inside the crater for the mexican ship.

Its realy easy to miss when you go to see it. Its well known locally, but not sign posted at all, and it wasn't on googlemaps. One of the highlights of the holiday for me.

I have to agree with most when I say Capaldi is doing a good job with the limited scripts he has, but I couldn't help but cringe at the Moon episode. Poor old Hermione looking at the camera saying "Thank you, thank you for giving me my moon back."

That's what I'd expect of a 10 year old.

in relation to the most recent episode, I have uncovered another allusion to a movie plot. Earthstorm (2006), starring Stephen Baldwin.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491764/plotsummary?re...

A modified space shuttle is sent to the moon with a nuclear bomb on board to patch up a huge crack on the surface.

Any chance of sacking the Dr. Who writer for plagiarism?

Anyway... of all the ways for Clara to be written out, I wasn't expecting that! I suppose it has become a bit old now for assistants to be duped in an alternate universe or mind wiped....
I fell asleep half way through. (that's how I feel about this series and it's not because Capaldi is Dr.)
I guess I'll have to go back and watch it again now.
