It was weak, but I'm hoping she's a reoccurring character
Next week should be good!
I doubt she'll be anything more than an incidental character sadly given her commitment to GoT. Next week should be good!

I'm not suggesting she replace Clara, but she could be a reoccurring character like Madam Vastra, without affecting GoT

Dull, dull, dull. They really don't know what to do with him do they? Too old for a love interest. Too young in mind to play an old man like Hartnell.
Long gone are the heady days of The Doctor and Rose Tyler where it was riding high in favour by both fans and children and more importantly people who normally don't watch Doctor Who.
This incarnation seems to be lost. I cannot see many children watching it as some of the stories are a bit more adult and they will get confused by the story arcs. Older viewers are finding it too childish and the only ones left seem to be the die hard fans than give that knowing finger wag and nod when he says something mentioned in series 4 episode 2.
Yesterdays I kept thinking "you ungrateful bh!". Given eternal life and done nothing but moan about it. And as for the lion(?) thing it looked like a cross between the Burger King King and that online gambling one. Who instead of fighting which I was hoping for just spouted fire, stood there and then evaporated.
Plus I really don't want a Doctor who spends he time "Oh, what's the point of it all. Everyone dies" attitude.

I agree, the writing seems lost and a great waste of acting talent. They have all of the ingredients a writer could ask for but just seem to have exhausted their inventory of monsters and I think the whole show format suffers from a bit of fatigue like Top Gear did. The Dr needs a cause or enemy to fight that is bigger than a season or two, something that he can't beat and can, at best, escape from for a few seasons that can lurk in the background while he sorts himself out. The lack of any background war or narrative really makes it hard to care episode to episode.Long gone are the heady days of The Doctor and Rose Tyler where it was riding high in favour by both fans and children and more importantly people who normally don't watch Doctor Who.

In the last season where Clara and the Dr both lied to each other about Pink/Gallifrey, they should have separated them and had him go off to do something.

This. They have a writer who is a fan, a writer who has no background in SF and a bunch of other "new talent". They limit themselves by trying to resolve everything obvious in a single, or at most two, episodes so there's no scope for any real build up of tension or mystery, and the "arc" stories end up being "look at us, weren't we clever, you didn't see that coming did you?". The "nods" to the old stories fall into the "aren't we clever" category and fail because they're inserted with all the subtlety of a Sontaran diplomatic mission.
Sonic sunglasses, FFS.
The show's become a vehicle for Moffat's PR.
Oh, and it's on far too late, so it's hitting the wrong viewers.

Positive review in the Telegraph.

I was not convinced. But then I have never been a big fan of the historical Earth episodes.

It's like they watched a different episode. It would have actually been better if it were just Maisie ranting for an hour about the downside of immortality, with the Dr comming up with some reason to keep going. The whole monster-wanting-to-invade/steal-the-crystal thing was actually completely unnecessary, which is probably why it was such a rubbish story. Highlander and Interview with a Vampire had more depth in five mins than the last two episodes combined.
