Gallifrey has been in a different universe, not destroyed.
Oh yes, I remember - hidden. So he's now in a different universe then? But the same Doctor?Admittedly it was a bit late when I watched this episode on the iPlayer, but where does the room resetting idea come from?
I missed that entirely and thought it was only the Doctor himself who was reset - with a new replica from the teleporter each time. That's why the diamond tunnel remained for him to gradually work on, and why when he found the spade the first time it was already muddy, and why there were millions of copies of his skull in the sea.
Unless there was a scene that showed things resetting and sleepyness erased it from my head.

In the montage of him dying/reviving etc it said how about each time he went back in a room (after leaving it long enough) it would reset. The hole he digs to get to the 'I'm in room 12' (or whatever it said) keeps filling itself back in.I missed that entirely and thought it was only the Doctor himself who was reset - with a new replica from the teleporter each time. There's a bit of monologue, around 28 minutes in, where he talks about luring the veil to the other end of the castle and having a maximum of 82 minutes before it finds him again. Then he talks about his work being finding room 12 and says "every room, if I leave it long enough, reverts to its condition at the moment I arrive. It tidies up after itself. Automated room service. I think this place is inside a closed energy loop, constantly recycling." While this is being said, we are shown various rooms, including the one with the "grave", which have reset.I missed that entirely and thought it was only the Doctor himself who was reset - with a new replica from the teleporter each time. I enjoyed the episode anyway, thought Capaldi was excellent.

"On pain of death, no-one takes a selfie!"
The sequence where we find out that the Doctor has been there for four and a half billion years. There was something familiar about the background music. Listening to the chord structure, it was the Eagles Hotel California. Very clever indeed.

Except he hadn't been. There had been billions of Doctors during that time. Each one lasted a few weeks or months and then sacrificed himself to bring another one into existence. In-fking-consistent.
