Well something needed to change, the last series was appalling (although I enjoyed the finale and the Christmas special).

Maybe the powers that be want a female doc and Moffat wasn't having it?

Now reported that Capaldi will be leaving too, though it's unclear whether he'll be doing one more series

Good he is too old for the modern Doctor. While his character softened as time went on and some episodes were really great he was miscast

(almost) Rubbish. The Dr. needs to be played by a good character actor. Capaldi was/is growing into the part, but hampered by dreadful scripts.

The constantly out of breath Peter Davidson is currently on the Horror Channel, Resurrection of the Daleks. I bet Moffat is watching it.

Can I nominate Stephen Mangan as a replacement. I enjoyed watching him in "Dirk Gently" before the bds at the BBC canceled it and thought he would make a great Doctor Who.

Absolutely right. For me Capaldi has been the best Doctor since the reboot with Christopher Ecclestone. It's Moffat who has destroyed the series.

No, because if he had a beard he'd be some sort of hipster wker which would ruin Dr. Who. You may as well have a one legged lesbian from tower hamlets.

I love Dr. Who but It's a shame it's been spoilt by hipster wkers..

I think Hugh Laurie would be perfect for the role, but obviously not within the BBC budget biggrin

Good call, though I like the Hugh Laurie suggestion too

There's a bit of me that would like to see us go backwards a little, and have one of the classic Doctors back, so he comes back in an older version of a previous body.

Or a prequel series with Paul McGann perhaps ?

Like Tom Baker's appearance as the elderly museum caretaker, making cryptic comments about revising old faces.

Only if he had an assistant called Gordon, who kept being mistakenly presumed dead. Then the Doctor hears that...

Sadly he's too old now. They've already got their wheelchair quota filled with Davros.
