Just my personal opinion again but I think there's been too many changes in a short time, then a years absence from our screens & I think people lose interest after time as I know I have but maybe that interest will bounce back again, maybe not or it may take some time.

Well, the Smudger family all enjoyed that immensely! Really well done, humour, drama romance and superhero geekiness and all without descending into cheese as some Christmas eps have.

Actually looking forward to seeing what Matt Lucas will add in further installments, too - And I am not a big fan of his

Just me that was a bit 'meh' to it then?

It just didn't make me want to pay attention frown

The trailers for next year did however smile

Doctor Who jumps on the superhero bandwagon whilst simultaneously forgetting to include more than about five minutes worth of plot. And why was Matt Lucas there?

Terrible.

I liked it the wife iked it the daughters liked it. We all thought it was pleasant, funny, sad in parts and simply well done. I think Matt Lucas is there from the events of last year.
Its not the worst and not the best of the xmas specials but its well done.

Matt Lucas is there to set up the next series I believe. Plenty of hints were dropped throughout that the Doctor has been on a multi-decade grump.

Quite enjoyed that. Light on any real plot, but easy to take in on a Christmas day. There have been worse episodes, and Capaldi continues to delight in the role. Matt Lucas also did a good job, more so than last Year's effort I felt.

Just one of its many faults!

I enjoyed it but I just watch it like a normal human being without getting into super geek mode. I know some people take all this stuff very seriously though, to each their own etc.

Damn Daleks again. Enough!!

Bring back the Cybermen, far more menacing than the pepper pots.

Well I've hated every Doctor Who Christmas Special in living memory, but I honestly thought that one wasn't bad. I even managed to tolerate Matt Lucas, whom normally I can't stand.

Did anyone else notice the Superman reference at 09:50?

I thought he could not go to New York, in the particular time period when Amy and Rory were trapped.
Also, he was messing about with not-really-explained apparatus on the roof at the beginning, so perhaps he is still working on a rescue plan?

I thought it was much better than the trailers led it to be. TBH, there wasn't much was a twist in the plot, very simple but thoroughly entertaining.

He was setting up a time distortion thingy wingy on the roof at the beginning, maybe it was for that reason?

I know that was supposed to be 24yrs ago with the boy but I'm not sure when the weeping angels were.

At 09:50? The whole thing was sprinkled with 'essence of Superman'!

Chris Chibnall ( Broadchurch creator ) to take over
Oh, st!

Chibnall's Dr Who episodes (42, The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three) are generally regarded as crap.

Toby Whithouse would have been a much better bet.
Still live in hope that Anthony Horowitz may get to pen some episodes, he's a great writer and written loads of top TV progs and books including teen books.

The one I was referring to was where the guy at the press conference said, "If you have any further queries, please refer them to Miss Shuster or Miss Siegel."

Superman was created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel.
