Chris Chibnall ( Broadchurch creator ) to take over
Oh, st!

Chibnall's Dr Who episodes (42, The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three) are generally regarded as crap.

Toby Whithouse would have been a much better bet.
My wife was friends with him (Toby Whithouse) at senior school and was always very proud whenever he was on the telly. Think she might have stopped him getting a kicking from the school bullies once or twice.

Quite a fun episode, Matt Lucas is good at playing slightly potty characters.

Rather enjoyed the whole piss take of Superman etc

Shame. Excellent Doctor but was let down by the scripts IMO. Cue the endless speculation....

It feels like Moffat couldn't give the series his full attention, and the production has shown the consequences.

Capaldi has given some excellent performances when the material has been up to scratch, but it hasn't always been up to scratch, and the budget restrictions seem to have been more visible lately.

All a pity really. Class has been a surprisingly watchable spin off, the main series needs to be treated a little more consistently and written by people who have a better guidance for the 'how and why' of Who. A little less magic and a little more problem solving and real science fiction.

In fairness he will have done 3 full series and I think xmas ones by the time he goes. Its not bad going.
Hopefully they can find someone a bit younger more unknown who will hit the ground running

I think the age thing has really messed them up. They had a good thing going with Matt Smith being a younger audience back to them and I think they lost that a bit with Cappaldi.

I know from speaking to my younger nieces and nephews they watched Smith but never liked Cappaldi.

Obviously doing the voice overs for Mercedes used car adverts is paying him well..

I thought that episode where he was stuck in an endless time loop for however many million years, was one of the best episodes of the show I've ever seen. Right up there with "Girl in the Fireplace" for me.

Some, however, have been more of a let down.

I'd suggest bringing back Sally Sparrow as the assistant.

Then have her become the Doctor.

I think Carey Mulligan may be rather out of budget now......

It's sort of a shame they announce these things. A surprise regeneration would wake the franchise up a bit.

My thoughts exactly, does disappoint that we can't we have some surprise in our shows. Secrecy has worked for Game of Thrones and for Westworld.

We need an old fashioned proper hero type instead of all the wishy washy BBC type, people like..

Burt Lancaster,
Clint Eastwood,
John Wayne,
Kirk Douglas,
Donald Trump.

Or failing that.

Kelly Brook.

You see, here's the thing; I opened this thread with a thought that actually a woman or black actor could be really interesting, a neat change and in the 'spirit' of Dr Who - but then I saw that article and now feel like someone's pissed on the strawberries.

Does she have nothing more important to do?

Exactly my thoughts. I'd love to see a woman play The Doctor, but once the feminazis get hold of it, it'll be ruined before it has begun.
