I hope when the doctor does regenerate that the reveal will be on the programme rather than shown weeks before hand as it killed the surprise.
I'd hope the same, but in this day and age there's almost no chance at all they would manage to keep it quiet beyond the start of filming. It would be great for the xmas special to end on a cliffhanger of who is it?... screen goes black with a voice "well these are new' cue credits etc.To be honest as long as whoever gets the role is a talented actor / actress and the writing is good enough it shouldn't ultimately matter for the character what's between their legs or what hue they have. But...
Problem is if they go down that route already people will dismiss them as 'just because they are <insert minority>' which is really unfair. And if they don't go down that route all the pro <insert minority> will moan and groan about it, which is also unfair to whoever gets it. Basically as soon as interest groups get involved any chance of being perceived on getting in on merit is screwed - which kinda beats the point doesn't it?
Haven't all new Doctors been known before they regenerate?

I'm surprised Frances de la Tour isn't on the bookies' list, she has been getting a few mentions recently. I have no problems at all with a female Doctor Who. After all, Prof. River Song was essentially The Doctor during Matt Smith's tenure as he was busy spinning on his heel and gurning, someone had to do the job.
I have no problem with a female Doctor, as such.
The problem that I do have with that is they've already used Michelle Gomez as Missy... what a Doctor she would have made!!!
A great follow on from Capaldi - still a little older, still Scottish, so the continuity is there through those lines... and boy! would she chew the scenery
Olivia Coleman?NO NO NO NO NO. The Doctor should be otherworldly, not bloody Mumsie.
My daughter suggested Eva Green... I think that could work!

Without getting into a handbag fight over a fictional character, I'd say that the Dr has been traditionally male in appearance but obviously is a creature that reincarnates in different forms; I don't see why they can't be female, black, Asian or anything in particular?
I have absolutely no problem with a black, Asian or whatever race or colour you choose Doctor. The point is that the character is male. The Master has already been diminished by arbitarily becoming female, even though Michelle Gomez does an absolutely incredible job and manages to retrieve the situation, but that isn't the point. It would have been better to have her in the role of another evil time lord, except a female one. It's not as if there isn't already such a character in the show's history (The Rani). She could have teamed up with The Master (again). But no, we had to have the politically correct feminist nonsense shoved down our throats.

What about the one that played Effie in Skins (forget her name now)? She was a bit nice.
And while we've already got one actor from The IT Crowd in the frame, what about Katherine Parkinson?
Ahhhh that's who I meant, not Olivia.Coleman. From IT Crowd and Humans. She'd be brilliant. And while we've already got one actor from The IT Crowd in the frame, what about Katherine Parkinson?

She's just had a kid. And is halfway through shooting the Maze Runner series, one stopped production due to a lead actor getting injured or something. Erm, not that I'd know or anything.
