I agree, better than the previous episodes in this series - although to be fair, they weren't a hard act to follow.

Was a quite clever and enjoyable episode - and I suspect more than a few kids would be hiding behind the sofa - which is the way it should be :-)

Though it did have similarities to an old Babylon 5 Episode

Season 4 Finale - where a computer generated Security Chief Garibaldi realises he is part of a computer simulation - hacks the simulation - and turns the tables on his foes with rather devastating results!!

Star Trek TNG - Ship in a Bottle?

"End program"

It was an interesting concept and I agree the aliens were really creepy.

Does this mean that the current doctor is just a computer simulation projection? So could that mean that the whole of Peter Capaldi as Dr Who is fake (within the series) and we will reset back to another doctor? Maybe an elder one hence the upcoming original Cybermen or the simulation will be confronting the Doctor with all the original enemies as a test.

Nope.

(Finally caught up last night!)

The simu-Doctor was nearly everything in just this episode.

The real Doctor was at the very start, the Missy flashbacks and at the very end when he received the Simu-Doctors warning.

The part where Nardole was telling Bill that he was a badass, reminded me of Matt Lucas' "look into my eyes, not around the eyes" hypnotist from Little Britain, same style of delivery biggrin

Sorry to ruin my reputation as the Grumpy Old Man of this thread, but I really enjoyed this week's episode.

And can Erica be the Doctor's next assistant please?

Couldn't help feeling "The Monks" might be related to "The Silence"

Did the Russian sub launch a missile, or another Russian sub at the pyramid?

A missile

Like the missiles from the plane, the pyramid disposed of the missile & brought the sub & its crew to it to prove a point.

Brilliant one-liner from Missy, "You'd be completely brain dead. You couldn't even go on Celebrity Love Island".

Another good episode
And why might that be ?
Well At Td's house we came to the conclusion that it had all the essential elements for a great Dr Who story. These are good acting, sadness humour and above all a clear emotional connection between the Dr and his companion.

Sorry, but I'm finding it difficult to enjoy this series simply because I don't think his assistant (Bill?) is very good. Not a patch on Clara or any other previous assistants. I cannot relate to her on any level.

Missy on the other hand is brilliant. But not enough to save the show when her screen time has been limited to a couple of minutes over the entire series.

I fear the high point of this series may already be behind us.

On the other hand I'm getting to like Nardole more and more; he's getting most of the good lines. Perhaps he and Missy can have a spinoff.

Could be so much better if a reformed (or otherwise) Missy was the assistant or partner.

Just a generally more interesting character.

They keep trying to spruce up the Doctor by hinting about him being responsible for multiple genocides and then constantly play him as Sheldon Cooper with a sonic screwdriver.

Another good one tonight I thought. Ice Warriors and Alpha Centauri! Very nostalgic.

I think this has been the best series for ages.
