Am I the only who will be disappointed with Capaldi as the new Doc if it pans out that way frown

A fine actor no doubt...but to my mind he's not right for the part as currently written.

For a start you'd have to ditch any sexual chemistry from the plot lines of future Dr Who's unless you draft in an new older/more mature assistant for the Doctor which...scratchchin...given Jenna-Louise Coleman's performances thus far probably wouldn't be a bad thing.
No count me in as well.. I think he is a great actor but I just can't see him as The Doctor to be honest.
yes And me, but I don't think he will be, as he's acted in it before...
There are precedents for them re-using actors who've played other roles (Freema Agyeman springs to mind), in fact hasn't Capaldi already played two different roles in DW/Torchwood?
Yes he has.

If it's him playing the lead then they could lose a lot of the younger viewers.

Why do you think that? :curious:
It'll be a departure from the 'youth' and (dare I say it) the Good Looks and Boyish Charm of Tennant and Smith and so part of the demographic that this appeals to might be lost - hence 'younger viewers' - not you or I.

Who is playing the Dr shouldn't actually bother any of us
It will. Do you really think a Sylvestor McCoy type wouldn't hit the ratings...

Personally I want an older Doc and no sexual chemistry, a return to the glory days.
Age of the Doc shouldn't turn of younger viewers if done right, Tom Baker was no 12 year old's vision of loveliness.
Just decent storyline and making it a bit more gritty would be ace.
That was a fair post yes...

I reckon Meryl Streep would make a good doctor.

Andrew Scott for me.

Brilliant as Moriaty in the latest Sherlock Holmes series he carries just enough menace to suggest a darker side to the Doctor. He's also young and able to deliver a joke/quick witted retorts.

...and he knows Moffat well...jus' sayin' wink

EFA

As a one-off - yes it works...but going forward as the star of the BBC's re-imagined flagship Saturday night Sci-Fi romp? Not gonna happen.

John Hurt, driving up the side of the Shard or running around all "up and at 'em"?

Moffat wont be taking the show back to the eighties when elderly gents were a shoe-in for the part...its all dynamism and buckles being swashed to get those ratings...and more importantly nowadays...those overseas ratings...and that (sadly) means there must be at least a hint of sex/romance mixed with some boyish good looks...Eccleston apart biggrin

Having said that, just watch them go and introduce Ian McKellen on Saturday evening!

All IMHO.

Indeed. The American market would still go for an older cerebral Doctor, with a good voice.
What evidence do you base that on?

Even their Sherlock Holmes series, Elementary, has Johnny Lee Miller teamed up with Lucy Liu as Watson in order to spark some Chemistry.

On history and all the American geeks I know (the last convention I went to).
Elementary is trying something new, it's good but not really germane to this chat. It's an American show doing it their way, I'm on about a British show.
I just don't think they do cerebral. And if they do it still has to involve a 'good looking' lead. Moffat wont risk it.

Couldnt we have the assistants do the romance-worked with the ginger bird & her hubby.
But there was always an undercurrent of The Doc --> Ginger. Remember the time she tried to jump on his bones in her bedroom, pre the Rory storyline?

They tend to be fairly 'lesser known' actors anyway, except for Ecclestone.
David Tennant?

Jon Pertwee, Sylvester McCoy, Tom & Colin Baker would argue that with you too wink
I'm talking about the 'reboot'. I would argue that Tennent, and Smith were relatively 'unknown' by the majority.
Correct yes

Got to be honest, although Death Star Canteen is one of the funniest things ever, I don't think a lot of him as an actual actor. More ham than a Sussex pig farm.]
Really? What have you seen gum in!? As I think he's excellent smile

im of course it was a joke rolleyes what is up with you this weekend? You're being very serious, more so than normal.
I think I caught sight of myself in the mirror the other morning and it dawned on me that I need a bleedin' time machine.

Anyway, the Izzard thing threw Halb as well, see his post above Ali.

TBH Jokes normally have a smilie of some description at the end of the post. Also Izzard has been mentioned frequently as a possible so its not an 'obvious' joke...if he'd said Brian Blessed or Julian Clary it would clearly be a different matter.

Anyway...as has been said...not long to go now biggrin

They must never ever repeat that cringeworthy program again.

It's not something we do well in this country and is rightly looked down upon by due to our more discerning and mature tastes.

The yanks however will be replaying it for months to come hehe
