What do I need to watch to enjoy the 50th anniversary show?Ben
No individual episode(s) jump out at me so pretty much the whole of Matt Smith's reign ought to do it.

Hmmm, another Doctor is claiming he's in the 50th special. What's the betting they all are in some form or another.
I don't think he's being serious...I think it's being said tongue-firmly-in-cheek.

Some of the stories given have been shoddy (Sylvester McCoy & the giant Bertie Bassett anyone?) hehe but none of The Drs have been crap, they have all been allowed to interpret 'him' in their own way.
I'd kinda agree with that...I feel that, if anything, the Doctors have been diminished by the companions that have been selected.

As evidence I offer up:

...this woman almost single handedly destroyed Dr Who for me many years ago.

Ace came close though.

Ali: Are you of the same opinion as my wife - that the Doctor should never be played by a woman? Not for any sexist reason more that the part calls for a male patriach type.

Just tried to book tickets but 50th Anniversary Special is selling out at Crawley Cineworld...have to admit that I'm surprised. Only 9:30/10:15pm remaining.

The special was not bad. The humour and plot seemed to gell nicely with a decent performance from the cast.

One thing was annoying though: why is something called the "time war" fought by conventional means i.e ships blasting the crud out of women and children? Seemed like a lack of imagination on the writer's part.
Yeah - that kinda niggled me - although that was the only thing.

I'd expected the time lords to be seen to be fighting the time war by sending time machines full of soldiers back in time to try and destroy the Daleks at various points in the time-line. Especially back to the point at which Davros was creating them.

With all of time and space to play with they had the Daleks at a massive dis-advantage.
