I'm trying to remember series 1 & 2

Series 1 was the kid that fell of the top of the cliff - Danny (Beth's son)

Turned out that it was the female coppers husband that dun it.

Series 2 was the court case and mixed into it was the reappearance of an old case from David Tennants past?

Is that about right?

Series 3 so far has Beth & Mark split up - she's a counsellor and he's written a book, seemingly led on by the local journo but no he doesn't really want to publish it.

Is that about right?

That's about right. Plus Lenny Henry has opened a farm shop and that trouty faced woman from Atlantis has a dodgy husband.

You forgot to mention that kid with cop mother and murderer father has been trading porn at school.

I'm concocting all sorts of theories so far. Chris Chibnall the writer has said already that rape is not a plot device for the series, and going on the basis that the 'birthday party' was in a remote location that could be hired-out in its entirety and that there were significantly more men than women present at was perhaps a sex-party that got our of hand hence the victim's initial reluctance to come forward.

Just a theory, but I'm guessing the story will revolve around the seedy underbelly of an on-the-face-of-it idyllic village.

Please tell me he's not going to give us 'The Lakes' set on the south coast?

Actually it was a better episode - much improved over S2 - and augurs well for the next few weeks...

Did anyone else wonder at the padlock on the examination room door - I'm not saying it's wrong, far from it - just a bit creepy (like you could be locked in)? Someone spec's up those nice new facilities and along comes the man to fit padlocks/hasps onto the lovely joinery. Top job.

Nice to see the groundsman from that Lottery Winners programme has spent his money wisely and purchased a farm shop.
And employed Lenny Henry! I enjoyed episode 1, very well acted by Julie Hesmondhalgh I thought. Also great banter between Miller and Hardy. Looking forward to next episode.
Julie Hesmondhalgh's acting was superb. If she doesn't get more work and a BAFTA, I'll eat my hat.
I thought Miller and Hardy's working relationship was well-observed. Doing their jobs but bickering like an old married couple. As will previous series, loads of people look dodgy but the most obvious hints tend not to be what you suspect.

80 people at a party but 50 of them male? I can't be the only one that thought 'Country house swingers S&M-gone-wrong sex party'? It will probably turn out to be far duller than that!

The dodgy looking mechanic husband with a box of condoms in his car, that look like the same brand as the corner found at the scene...

It wasn't him that did it. He's been having an affair with someone. Possibly even snuck away at the party to do it by the waterfall, out of sight?

Also, will we see Beth and Miller make up, now they are both supporting the rape victim? Or will it just be more tension between them?

Was it actually a padlock - or just some form of single-use seal? (I can't claim I was paying that much attention, but from what was said I had imagined it was the latter.....)

Pretty sure it was nothing more than a brightly coloured zip-tie.

Of all the things to pick up on, you noticed that? Brilliant.

But yes, it was a single use seal, as was explained in order to keep the room forensically clean ready for examination.

I think the fact that we're having a side-debate on whether it was a padlock or a zip-tie shows that the whole thing was a reasonably well crafted job which sucked us in quite nicely - I'd suggest nearly as good as S1 Episode 1, with the emphasis on only "nearly" as an obvious point.

Looking back, I liked it. I liked the "married couple" showing, I think, just how good Tennant and Coleman can be. Loved the locations (know the coast well between Burton Bradstock and West Bay, and also the Washingpool Farm Shop), so was enchanted as always. Am nearly ready to forgive everyone for Series 2!!!

We thought it was a big improvement, on the strength of episode 1, over S2, which seemed a bit directionless and gloomy.

The banter between Dr Who and her from 2012 was quite cheery, which along with the blue sky and sunshine, quite lifted my mood!

Really? I thought, it's the bloke's party and he's mostly invited his mates and business acquintances - What a dull, conventional world I live in! biggrin

Can't see the appeal in a Swingers party where the blokes outnumber the women personally!

Enjoyed last night's episode.

It's looking geared up to be the ex husband (garage owner bloke) but that's too obvious. Could it be Lenny Henry?

It's turning out like Series 1, different suspect every week, so to speak.

Also the garage owner is the husband of the woman who's party it was not the victim. The victim's (not actual)-ex is Charlie Higson (teacher/school techie bloke).

What's with the comedians (loose term) in this show. I expect Paul Whitehouse to be seen leaning over a dry stone wall later in the series.

Possibly.

What do we make of Charlie Higson having a sports bag of clothes in a cupboard that he only then goes to wash? Totally innocent and he just forgot to clean his kit from that weekend's Broadchurch Park Run? Did he witness something else, and go to intervene which got him muddy?
