I would say it's more due to her desire to be a detective, hence all the annoying questions and interruptions at the start. She would know that she would be off the case if they found out she was the daughter of a suspect. Then again, you question their detective skills when a local junior detective shares the same name as a suspect, all in a small town!

Building nicely although I think the 'rapist on remand' chap is a red herring, and the 'bright light from the cottage' is actually a camera phone and the rape was filmed, and that's what is on the laptop, and on the lads phone.

Another thread of story that we haven't seen play out yet...

What is the significance of the local newspaper being closed down and moved to a paper covering a wider area, and the journalist being told she has to relocate?

Frustrating episode this week I thought. Didn't go anywhere and strung us along even more.

You can spot the oh so obvious red herrings a mile off as well.

Bit of a shame as it was building nicely. Hoping for better next week.

If previous series are anything to go by then probably everything we've seen so far.

Cliff-hanger with Charlie Higson sneaking into the house (with tense music) is nothing more than him going to retrieve his laptop. I'm still pinning this on sleazy but embarassing rather than illegal goings-on being the motivation for most of the characters acting sinister, David Tennant's character's daughter's mishap being another signpost to this (to stop him judging others who end up with intimate info going public).

Suspect this will all circle back to Season 1 somehow. Loved the servicing the boiler line.

Bringing in the local rapist mainly, suddenly all of the evidence was stacking up against him (Maybe not herring, but Mackerel?? cool) . But we all know it isn't him as there is no element of surprise / twist if it is. Also with 4 more other obvious suspects (Lenny, ex husband, taxi driver, fishing shop lad) there is no way they've revealed the culprit this early.

I like the theory above about the light from the cottage / mobile phone theory, I think that's exactly what it is and will be a big twist that the plods son is some way involved.

I honestly am still guessing among the 4 named above, possibly a combination of a few of them.

I keep waiting for Charlie Higson to go 'Ted..' and for Lenny to go all Wildebeest on someone.

Too many suspects. Too much filling now, needs to conclude.

Completely overdone on the suspect front IMO. In fact am beginning to suspect it might be one of the cameramen that did it.

And

I can see Mark pushing Joe Miller into that dock and drowning him. Or at least attempting to do that, but ending up dead himself

Well, David Tennant is currently co-hosting the Absolute Radio breakfast show and of course he isn't giving anything away.

But they have then gone to the extreme length of getting Uri Geller to "read" DT's mind over the telephone, all the way from Israel, in order to tell us all who the attacker is.

What better proof do we need than the opinion, nay, the belief, of completely-serious-and-not-at-all-making-it-all-up charlatan Uri Geller?

He thinks it was Cath Atwood who planned the attack.

Case closed I guess?!

What a show stealer the rapist was though. I've only seen that actor in comedies but he was brilliant to watch at work.
Has there ever been a 'serious' drama where so many comedy actors have been used in casting like Broadchurch?

Nothing major I would guess. Just another side line to fill out

Maybe. Although after this week's episode one could wonder if the details of the attacker's movements might be linked to something that happened in the paper?

If as was mentioned, all the attacks happened during the summer then it suggests it could be someone like a student/temp worker in the area for a short time only, wonder if they are in the paper for it?

It was a very entertaining scene, although I'm far from convinced a 'best mate' would bed the other half on the morning of her big birthday 'just because'...or is there more to it? Sordid pay per view? Pay per puke? Who knows.

Rewatching series 1 recently.

A line that stands out from Susan Wright (Pauline Quirke)

'I know men that would rape you'

Some sort of revenge plot on the town for revealing her life and son back then perhaps

I've only just started watching this series. Whilst waiting for new episodes, is it worth going back and watching S1 and S2, even though I already know the outcome?

I think S3 will only be rewarding (if at all) once you have an understanding of the background presented in S1&2 - it is threatening to "resolve" some of the themes.....

So "yes" get into S1 especially.
