Perhaps he would have come across them eventually, if he hadn't wasted his time putting his foot through the floor...smile

I'm sure it's going to end in tears eventually for that young lovestruck babysitter....she's playing with fire...

Still enjoying it but it does seem to have lost it's direction a bit.

It feels like there should be a plot twist coming but they seem to have written it out of the script, surely they have enough evidence now?

Enjoyed the episode and hopefully they wrap it all up in the last next week. They cannot possibly drag a third series out it. Although I'm wondering if they might drop the Stella character into a different story and location.

Finding this very frustrating. Stella's 'personality' has been well covered, so.... a couple of things that irritated last night...

How many response cars to send in daylight to 3 armed men fighting in the city? One. With another arriving a little later. Make sure the first to arrive plays a little siren cop to alert the gunman to the incoming car. Having first ensured that your own guns are still holstered.

How many response cars to send in darkness to a long abandoned burnt out car in a quarry? Four.rolleyes

Also, follow the Benedetto girl from her house - with no idea where she is going. Ensure the following cop is just as obvious as on previous days byebye and wears the same outfit so we/she are sure to recognise him. Via a long walk and a visit to a bank she arrives on a bridge over the river. Cop 1 passes by. Miraculously, Cop 2 is in place at the other end of the bridge to follow her when she does an about turn and heads off in the opposite direction.scratchchin

I thought that was a weak episode. They have their man, the surviving victim had first hand recall of him in last week's episode. They knew he wasn't with Rose so why wait for the arrest? And Andersen's "acting" is...really...beginning...to...annoy...me...now. Get to the point woman! It's as if she can't shrug off the X Files, every single sentence has to be laden with mystery and portent. Olivia Colman showed her how to play a female copper in Broadchurch IMO. I've never met anyone who acts and talks the way that Andersen does in this, and if they did then they would be a figure of ridicule in the workplace.

This series isn't a patch on the first, which was chock full of suspense and menace. In this one they've made the "24" and "Homeland" mistake of having a really annoying teenage girl that continually makes all sorts of blindingly bad decisions. Just looks like lazy scriptwriting to me, rushed out the door to capitalise on the success of the first series.

Bah humbug

From last night's re-cap of the damage there was a joist missing in the 'fall area' - joists are not generally prone to failure in neat 16" segments (either the whole roof/ceiling is duff or there's another issue) so I'm calling that a silly mistake.

His fight with the former terrorist hard man livened things up, but why (oh why?) would you choose to deposit your hard-drive-less laptop in the tank of exotics at the botanical gardens? Would not a drainage grating or skip or random bin be just as good/hidden from view?

I'm with you 100%. This series is unbelievably weak compared to the first and last night's episode was frankly st.

Are we all resigned to a predictable finale in which Rose is found alive and Paul dies as he tries to make a daring escape from custody? I'm still hoping there's a brilliant last episode in store that proves me wrong and makes the last 5 episodes worthwhile...but I doubt it.

The most recent episode was much, much better than the previous ones in this series. I quite enjoyed it.

You do, of course, need to suspend disbelief of procedure, physics, structural integrity and behaviour -as you also do with "The Bridge" and "The Killing"- but there was a tension and involvement that seems to have been lacking earlier in the series.

Are you watching the right show? I watched and failed to deliver. Why would a killer portrayed throughout as smart and cunning, go to the trouble of burning his book and destroying hard drive, but then leave a video on his phone?? I blame Breaking Bad for being setting standards so high for all that follow.

Also anyone else though Gillian was making another lesbian move on the sleeping detective!

Is there something wrong with me as I'm rooting for the killer biggrin, considering he has killed innocents, not good! anyone else?

Did you read my "suspending disbelief" bit?

there is a fine line between "acceptable" and "silly", but you need to remember that it is not real.

Drama that is genuinely "true to life" with all of its banality and paperwork would make for tedious viewing.

This series is not as good as the first one, but the latest episode had something the previous ones didn't, for me.

Did you not read my Breaking bad bit? tongue out as if you have seen BB, then my comment will have covered your suspending belief bit and also all the above.

Yes it does not need to be true to life, but the show has to be clever enough to allow the viewer to let it slide.

British dramas like these often 'fall' down due to have a single writer in my opinion, if they moved to an american format of having a round table team of equally talented writers who work together and challenge each other, it would be stronger for it.

The Fall is not as good as Breaking Bad, no.

The latest episode was better than those before it.

The statements above are not mutually exclusive.

Ps. Breaking Bad was silly in places too.

Did anyone notice if the SD card the Benedetto girl was trying to flush down the loo went or did she grab it back out, if she did where did it go?

Could be wrong but, think she did retrieve it then dropped it(across the room)when the police charged in.

I though she tried to snap it in half when failed to flush.

Yep! That was what she was trying to do as the police charged in.

Sigh - 5 episodes - no murrrder yet.

Are they lining up "The Fall pt3" ?

Police only seem to be chasing him for the abduction of Rose.

We were not privy to discussions/plans between Katy (the babysitter) and Paul.

She went to the bank, drew out a large sum of money. She knew where Paul had hidden the SD card - shame she didn't manage to destroy/get rid of it!

It's a bit shocking I'm on Paul's side!

Possible scenario:
The money was a pay-off to Rose as Paul lets her go. She knows he can/will find her in future if she doesn't play along with his story.
From the phone video of Rose in captivity and his snarling criticism of Stella, Paul will say it was just a little sex-play/bondage scene between him and an ex.
He knows Stella is watching him in the cell - he's got her diary/fantasies, he's worked her out.
Her encouragement to the female officer (long dark hair - one of his "triggers") to visit him in his cell - did it work? What was she hoping to achieve with that? He doesn't actually like women.
Stella's hopeless as a cop tbh - profiler, yes, cop no.

So, he could go free.

Fly in the ointment is the discovery of (mitochondrial?) DNA on the scissors?
